A food critic on social media compared the menus of two of the UK’s most popular pizza takeaways, Pizza Hut and Domino’s, and people were floored by one aspect of the products
Pizza is a beloved takeaway for many Brits, with Pizza Hut and Domino’s being the two main contenders. There’s a plethora of toppings available to cater to various tastes and dietary needs, such as vegetarian and pescatarian.
Social media food critic Becca decided to put Pizza Hut and Domino’s head-to-head to determine which one reigns supreme. She ordered six identical items from each chain and shared her reviews in a TikTok video, kicking off with the barbecue meat feast pizza. The price was nearly identical, with Pizza Hut charging £22.99 and Domino’s asking for £21.99. Sampling the Pizza Hut version first, she found it somewhat undercooked, describing it as “awful” with “really spongy, not very nice bread”.
Becca commented: “Hardly any actual barbecue sauce on the base. That’s a four out of 10. Next, let’s try Domino’s.”
Upon taking her first bite, she proclaimed it was “10 times better” than the Pizza Hut offering.
She thought the barbecue sauce was “banging” but there needed to be more of it. The foodie remarked: “I like that I can taste all the individual meats.
“The bread could be a little bit fluffier but it’s still good. That’s an 8 and a half out of 10.”
The next item she tried was a stuffed crust chicken feast pizza which was £25.98 from Pizza Hut and £28.49 from Domino’s.
Starting with Pizza Hut, her initial observation was the crust looked “weird”. She didn’t like the taste of the pizza either, saying: “I’m just disappointed, this is awful.
“[The] chicken is tasteless, even the sweetcorn doesn’t have any like sweetness to it.” Becca acknowledged one good thing about the pizza was the generous amount of cheese however she wasn’t impressed by how floppy the slice was or the cheese inside the stuffed crust that “doesn’t taste of anything”.
She rated the pizza a 3 out of 10 before trying the Domino’s version. The foodie described the stuffed crust as “really good”, noting the garlic flavour “running throughout”.
Becca found the chicken pieces “very plain” but thought they were more flavourful than the Pizza Hut one.
She gave the Domino’s Stuffed Crust Chicken Feast pizza 7 and a half out of 10 score. Moving on, she sampled a vegetable pizza from each takeaway.
The price of the Pizza Hut one was £20.99 and the Domino’s cost £21.99. She started with Pizza Hut and firstly removed the olives, mentioning she’s not a fan of them.
The remaining vegetables were roasted tomatoes, mushrooms, pepper and red onion. Becca tasted the pizza and felt the vegetables had flavour but the actual pizza base didn’t as she couldn’t taste the tomato sauce and the cheese was “tasteless”.
Becca wasn’t blown away by the bread either and rated the pizza a 5 out of 10. She continued: “Next up is Domino’s. This tastes like ‘I couldn’t be bothered’.
“The pizza dough needed longer. There’s no like… there’s no flavour to the veggies. It’s all just very like really basic cheap ingredients thrown on.”
Unimpressed, she gave the Domino’s vegetable pizza a 4 out of 10. Having enough of pizza, she decided to taste some side dishes.
Becca bought mac and cheese from Pizza Hut for £6.99 and the same item was £8.99 from Domino’s.
She didn’t enjoy the Pizza Hut one and likened it to “mac and milk” more than mac and cheese, observing the sauce was “incredibly milky”.
The food reviewer rated it a 6 out of 10. Becca then tasted the Domino’s version and thought it was “very orange in comparison”.
Taking a forkful, she stated: “Oh, that’s much better. This mac and cheese has got so much flavour in it when you’re not getting the topping and that’s the main thing that matters because once that topping is gone you don’t wanna be left with milky pasta.”
She scored the dish a 7 and a half out of 10. After this, she sampled chicken strips which were £6.99 from both takeaways which both had seven pieces per portion.
The Pizza Hut one had “way too much batter and breadcrumbs around the outside” and the chicken was “ok” but needed to be cooked for longer, according to the food critic.
They earned a 5 and a half rating out of 10 from Becca. She moved on: “This is Domino’s.
“Oh my God they’re so plain. They’re a 2 out of 10.” The final item in the taste test was garlic bread.
The Domino’s one cost £5.99 and the Pizza Hut version cost £6.99. Becca began with Pizza Hut and loved the blend of cheeses and hailed the bread as “gorgeous”, calling it a “very good garlic bread”.
She rated it an 8 and a half out of 10. The foodie also loved the bread used in the Domino’s item but felt the garlic flavour could have been stronger so she gave it a 7 and a half out of 10.
Becca’s TikTok video has garnered plenty of views, likes and comments but one thing that stood out to several viewers was the price.
One user said: “I’m sorry £28 for a single pizza!!” Another added: “These prices are crazy.” A third commented: “Nearly £30 for ONE pizza is a joke.”
