Lisa Morales Duke often shares videos about her travels on social media. She recently revealed what her biggest “culture shock” was when she moved from America to sunny Spain
Every now and then people fancy a change.
Whether it be their lifestyle, job or location. One woman recently decided to ditch the United States to live in Spain – and it’s been an adventure.
Even though there are many pros, she admitted she had a huge “culture shock” when she arrived. Lisa Morales Duke boasts a huge following on TikTok thanks to her travel content, and a recent video got a lot of people talking.
Over a clip of herself walking empty streets, she said: “Almost everything, including grocery stores, is closed on Sundays.”
It may sound a bit dramatic, but it’s understandable why she was so shocked. After all, when you’re used to living in a country full of hustle and bustle, you’re bound to be taken by surprise by the quietness.
The video has since been viewed thousands of times, and people were quick to comment too. One person suggested they think Sunday in Spain is “church and family day”. One person said: “The US is the rat race’s epitome. Enjoy life at a slower pace.”
Another wrote: “I feel this is the way it’s supposed to be.” A third replied: “Well, we need to rest some days. Sunday is the perfect one, just relax at home or go for a walk.”
Meanwhile, a fourth also commented: “Siesta time. Loved it! Took a few days to get used to it at first.”
Many people, including Lisa, admitted they think it’s a great idea. In fact, she said she thought the USA “needs” more downtime like this too.
If you didn’t know, most shops in Spain are actually closed on Sundays. There are some exceptions though, as a couple of specialised stores in tourist areas and large shopping centres operate on limited Sunday hours.
Generally, the day is considered a day of rest for most businesses and people across the country. As well as this, the country has traditional “siesta” breaks where shops close for lunch, and this can also apply to weekdays too.
