A woman has taken to social media to ask for help after finding a strange note inside every handbag she was picking up at TK Maxx – and it turns out there could be a very simple explanation
A confused TK Maxx shopper was left scratching her head after she kept finding odd notes inside every handbag she picked up while browsing in store.
TK Maxx is known for being a treasure trove of designer deals, quirky finds, must-have books, and top beauty products, and has now become the centre of a bizarre mystery.
A woman who goes by @madssteffano on TikTok noticed that each handbag contained scraps of paper with the names “Someone explain to me right now why I keep finding a piece of paper that says Bob and Lisa in purses at TJ Maxx [the international name for TK Maxx]?”
In the caption she penned: “Please help? Am I going crazy? Like why is this a thing? And they all say Bob and Lisa”.
The comments section delivered some clarity for the baffled woman, as some people claimed to have the answers she needed.
One person suggested that Bob is shorthand for “Bottom Of Bag” and Lisa means “Look In Small Areas”, claiming these are terms used in loss prevention to check that no extra items are being concealed in larger ones, such as handbags.
One user suggested that the staff could benefit from finding these notes. “If the cashiers find them and turn them while ringing you out, they get entered into a drawing, which means they did their job and checked inside,” she claimed.
“This just pulled a memory from deep inside my brain from working at TJ Maxx,” another woman wrote.
A different person chimed in, saying the notes were “reminders for employees” so that they’d remember to check everything out properly before bagging up the items for the customer.
But of course, if they don’t look for them, then they can’t find them. “I’m just gonna go to TJ Maxx, take them all out, and give them to my cashier to turn in for a prize,” one person quipped.
A TikToker explained that it’s to “make sure nobody is hiding anything or stealing”. “When cashiers would find it at my TJ Maxx, you would get a candy bar,” an employee revealed.
TK Maxx has been approached for a comment.
