A man has taken to TikTok to share a de-icing hack that went viral – but he was left seriously regretting it after he tried it out for himself and it did not go to plan
A man has recounted the harrowing ordeal he faced after attempting a viral de-icing trick that disastrously backfired.
Jordan, who goes by @jordan_the_stallion8 on TikTok, responded to a video showing someone pouring boiling water onto their icy windshield by strongly advising against it. But where did he gain this wisdom?
In a cautionary tale, Jordan revealed that following this trend will cause your windscreen to “shatter immediately,” drawing from his own mishap: “I know that from personal experience because when I was younger, I was always so fascinated about how the windshield of the car would freeze overnight, so I thought ‘oh if I put hot water on the windshield, the ice will go away’.”
He tested his hypothesis on his neighbour’s pristine Mercedes, which was “the nicest car in the neighbourhood” – with disastrous results.
“I filled up my insulated hot water bottle with really hot water. I went across the street, poured it on his windshield, and it shattered immediately,” he shared.
Yet, instead of accepting the failure of his method, he dismissed it as “just a coincidence” and proceeded to repeat the process on another window “of the same car”.
Predictably, he shattered that window too, and still unconvinced, he speculated that “maybe it was two coincidences” and tried it on a third window, much to his dismay.
In a candid confession, he said: “It shattered, and I thought ‘maybe I’m the problem’,” only realising then that it was the hot water that caused the problem, leading him to “panic and leave” in the hope his neighbour would remain oblivious to his actions.
Unfortunately, he left behind a water bottle at the scene with ‘property of Jordan’ emblazoned on it, leaving no doubt as to who was responsible.
Owing to his botched experiment, he found himself “making monthly payments” to his neighbour, compelling him to divulge his “natural de-icer” formula to help prevent others from repeating his error.
He explained: “Just put cold water, isopropyl alcohol, and dish soap [together], and that will make a natural de-icer that has a lower freezing point than water.”
“Spray it overnight and it should help by making your windows not freeze over.”
