A heartwarming trend has gone viral after people have been spotted sneaking gift vouchers and cash into baby products in supermarkets to help parents out – but has sadly been ruined by greedy people
Mums have been left devastated after finding baby products ripped apart in supermarkets – ruining a kind gestures to help out parents.
Parenthood is rewarding, but there is no doubt it comes with some challenges. In order to show appreciation for other mums and dads, a heartwarming trend known as ‘she deserved the purse’ has gone viral recently.
It comes after a video went viral which showed an abandoned $20 (£14.91) sparkly clutch bag in the nappies aisle of a Target store in the US. What looked like a misplace item is the gesture of a mum who gave up what she wanted, and picked up products for her child instead. It made people want to do something to help parents out – and people have been putting cash and gift cards inside baby products in supermarkets.
However the trend, which is described as “the sweetest” online, has sadly taken a heartbreaking turn. One mum, Marina, was recently shopping when she found boxes of nappies, formula, baby bottles, and other baby products ripped in a supermarket as people tried to get their hands on the hidden gifts.
“Can’t we just let a good thing be good?” the annoyed woman said. The TikTok user under handle @marinagudov added: “Actually so upset to see grown adults act like this.”
The young US woman shook her head as she walked down the baby products aisle in a Target store. The products have been left damaged and worried mums who need products for their children.
One mum said she was unable to get medicine for her child following the acts. She commented on Marina’s video and added: “Tried to get cough medicine for my toddler last night and they’re were all open. I don’t wanna use an opened medicine for my babies. I was so angry.”
Another mum who has been affected, said: “Went to buy baby bottles for my soon to be daughter and had no idea why all the packages were open and destroyed with product damaged.”
A retail worker added: “The worst part is, I work in retail, and those damaged boxes will be marked as do not resale and thrown out due to contamination. Leading to shortages, higher demand, and therefore higher prices.”
One other wrote: “This is so sad like you all do not need the money as much as these beautiful mothers who are trying their best.” “Breaks my heart,” added another.
Another TikTok user @valeriadiher shared she found a whole row of baby formula products were taken off the shelves after being tampered with. Valeria said: “It’s never that serious. This ‘she deserved the purse trend’ was meant to help parents in need and it went south so fast.”
She found a number of children’s medical products had been tampered with as well as diaper rash paste. She added: “Kids do not deserve tampered products, especially medicine. This is so wrong.”
One mum commented: “The only brand my daughter drinks is no longer available because all of them have been tampered with.” Another mum wrote: “I went to Target yesterday to get my kid some teething drops and all of them were opened. Drove two hours to get there.”
