A young woman is urging single people to get on Tinder Passport Mode as she met the love of her life – now they are engaged and is planning on moving to the US
A British woman says people “think she is joking” after she flew to Texas to meet a stranger she met on Tinder – and is now his fiancé.
Finding ‘the one’ can take a long time for many people, but it was love at first swipe for Lucy Hughes and her partner Dakota, from Texas, US. A friend of Lucy’s advised her to download Tinder Passport and it changed her life for good.
Tinder Passport Mode allows you to navigate between your current location and new destinations so you can speak to people across the world – and Lucy insists anyone who is single and keen to date should get it.
She and Dakota spoke on Snapchat for around 18 months before Lucy decided to “bite the bullet” and booked her flights “to meet a stranger I was talking to for years”, she said on her TikTok page. In March 2022 she finally met Dakota in his home city of Austin, Texas.
The old saying ‘love knows no distance’ is certainly true for this duo who battled through long distance struggles for four years. Now, Lucy, who is engaged to Dakota, is planning on moving to the US to be with him forever.
Lucy, who gets to live out her cowgirl dreams, said: “One minute he’s just a stranger you matched with on Tinder Passport, next you’re booking your flights to meet him, next you engaged navigating the visa process to move from the UK to the US.
“Next, you realise you’ve become the softest version of yourself, your friends love him, and you’re excitedly counting the days until you get to see each other again.”
Lucy, who is from north Wales but has lived in several places around the UK, flew back and forth from the US to see her love in 2022 and 2023. During that time she went to her first American bar, visited Colorado, went skiing, attended weddings, and experienced her first Texas Rangers baseball game with Dakota.
In September 2023, Lucy flew back to Texas and Dakota proposed to her on his family’s farm with all their closest friends. In April 2024, her fiancé experienced the UK for the fist time – and enjoyed visiting tourist spots in London.
Then in September this year, the pair applied for a fiancé visa and is planning on moving. Lucy, who has raked in over 655,000 likes after sharing her unique relationship online, said: “People think I’m joking when I tell them I’m moving to Texas to marry a cowboy.”
