‘I love sweet baby name for daughter – but I’m scared it will scar her for life’

By staff16 October 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A mum turned to social media for advice when she couldn’t decide whether to use her favourite baby name

A mum has divided opinion after revealing her favourite baby name, as parents loved the “cute” moniker, but some thought she shouldn’t choose it. Sharing her dilemma on social media, the parent asked Reddit users: “Am I scarring my children for life?”

The mum’s post explained: “A bit of a dramatic title, but I am worried my daughters will forever be upset with me for questions (and fun-poking) they may get about their names…. 5 years ago in October I had my first daughter. For many reasons, I love an “A” name! My final choices included April and Autumn. I ended up going with April.

“Well, now I am pregnant again (after being unsure if I would have a 2nd) with a daughter due in… April! And I’m still really drawn to the name Autumn. So, I’m setting up my two daughters to be made fun of for being ‘April born in Autumn’ and ‘Autumn born in April’?

“Is it too much? Too many A names? Too many calendar names? Too many times they will each be asked, ‘Oh, were you born in X?’ and they’ll have to respond with, ‘My parents were just ridiculous people.’ Or… is it kind of sweet?? Like a little connection they will always have together?”

In response, commenters shared their thoughts on the matter, and people fell on both sides of the debate. One answer read: “You may not like this answer but I think you’re after honesty so I’ll give it to you straight!

“I think ‘scarring’ them or setting them up for bullying is a little dramatic. Ultimately, if you like the names (and they are objectively both very nice names), you can name your kids what you want.

“That said, I sadly think they ARE too similar for siblings. Two 2-syllable ‘A’ names that have a seasonal/calendar theme is a little much, in my opinion.”

A similar reply said: “Honestly I think the names are pretty but both of them together is a bit much for me personally. If kids want to make fun of them they will regardless of their names, kids are mean.”

However, several commenters loved the names and told the mum to go for it. A fan of the idea wrote: “I think it’s really sweet actually and a nice connection for the sisters, without the names really being overly matchy.”

Another social media user advised: “I don’t think anyone would think of that unless prompted. I love both names and would go for it.”

A different commenter said: “If you end up deciding not to go with Autumn, perhaps the name Audra! I’ve met one person with the name and think it’s nice and feels strong while being down-to-earth like Autumn. It’s kind of a fresh take on the name Audrey.”
