‘I love this electric blanket – it costs 1p to use and is perfect for the colder weather’

By staff1 October 2025No Comments5 Mins Read

This heated electric blanket has become something of a household essential for keeping warm in the cold weather without having to turn the heating on

The mercury has taken a significant dip in the past week, a stark contrast to the late summer heatwaves. With my winter gear making an early appearance and my hats becoming a permanent fixture, I’ve found solace in what could be my best home purchase ever.

The device I’m referring to is an electric blanket. Specifically, the Silentnight Luxury Super Cosy Heated Throw. It’s a total game-changer when the cold sets in and it helps keep the winter bills at bay (it claims to cost from 1p to run).

Perfect for someone like me who feels chilly most of the time. Bulky, incredibly soft and fairly large, the 120 x 160cm blanket can comfortably cover two people with space for a pet in between and generates some seriously cosy warmth. My cat has even taken to snoozing on it because it’s so plush.

It carries a price tag of £59.99 and is available from Amazon as well as Boots. The blanket boasts nine heat levels, one being a standard, non-electric blanket level, and nine being quite warm.

Additionally, it features HeatSafe overheat protection. My usual setting is around six, which I would liken to the sensation experienced when immersed in a warm bath.

With a user-friendly remote control, the Luxury Super Cosy Heated Throw is easy to adjust and comes with an automatic safety switch-off after about two hours. For those who are somewhat clumsy (like me), the blanket is also machine washable, which is a convenient feature when prone to spills.

Available in four different colours – charcoal grey (my personal choice), deep red, olive green and natural (the shade I selected for my mum) – this blanket boasts an incredibly soft jacquard fleece exterior. It’s so cosy, I’ve regularly dozed off underneath it.

If these colours aren’t for you, Dreamland’s Intelliheat Throw at Boots offers a pop of colour with its vibrant teal shade, currently discounted to £49.69 from £69.99. This blanket heats up in just five minutes and, despite having fewer settings (six in total), it’s so impressive that customers have snapped up three each. Meanwhile, borg fabric lovers can nab the Teddy Electric Blanket for £40 at Dunelm.

Returning to the Silentnight Luxury Super Cosy Heated Throw, I’m not alone in having my chilly evenings revolutionised by it. With a solid 4.3-star rating on Amazon, one satisfied electric blanket user shared their thoughts: “This rug changes cold, shivery winter evenings into warm, relaxed evenings. It’s soft to the touch and easily adjustable, and after warming you through, it only needs to run on its lowest settings.”

Another customer echoed these sentiments, stating: “I purchased two of these, one for myself and one for my wife. We use these as ever-increasing heating costs and losing the Winter Fuel subsidy as a throw and leave the heating off.

“They are big enough to throw over yourself, and within 10 minutes, you are as snug as a bug in a rug. They only cost pennies to run and can be washed, and it’s not long before you are switching them off and you stay warm for nothing, turn them back on and you can control how warm you want to be. Saving money already, so glad we purchased them.”

A third added: “I have used heated throws for years to avoid paying for heating, and this is the best I’ve ever had, thanks to the quality and the fact that it’s weighty. It looks and feels wonderful. You get what you pay for and I got a good one this time. To those who haven’t discovered these yet, get one and save an absolute fortune every winter.”

One thing I will mention is that occasionally, the warmth throughout the entire blanket can be slightly uneven – for instance, sometimes sections of the edges don’t quite match the temperature of the middle, reports Bristol Live.

However, this doesn’t really impact the blanket’s standard as the uneven spots are so tiny that it’s hardly noticeable. One three-star review expressed a similar opinion and commented: ” Doesn’t seem to be an all-over heat. I’m saying that, it’s nice and fluffy and does keep you warm.”
