‘I made £6,000 on Vinted by following eight simple rules – you can do it too’

If you’ve got unwanted books, clothes, and toys laying around, you could be unknowingly sitting on a goldmine. Here are eight tips to help you make money on Vinted

Vinted is a great place to make some extra cash, and you can bolster your sales significantly when you’re familiar with the ropes. If you’ve got unwanted books, clothes, and toys gathering dust, you could be unknowingly sitting on a treasure trove, so it might be time to set up an account if you haven’t already. If you already have one, and you’re just after some tips and tricks on how to boost your earnings, look no further.

Chloe Chandler shared her eight top tips to “make money and sell, sell, sell,” revealing how she raked in over £6,000 on Vinted by being meticulous and selling her items in the right manner.

1. Check the label

Chloe advises sellers to scrutinise the label before listing an item on Vinted, as there could be “desirable components” such as high-quality materials like silk in your garment.

She believes this makes the item “more desirable”, allowing you to “put up the item for a higher price point” and increasing the likelihood of a quick sale.

2. Upload at peak times

Chloe suggests that the prime time to upload on Vinted is between 7pm-10pm from Monday to Friday, “when people have got in from work, they’ve put their children to bed, they’re having a scroll on Vinted”.

She warns against uploading at “2pm on a Monday” because it “won’t get pushed into the algorithm” and people won’t see it.

Chloe says that any time over the weekend is fine, but specifically Sunday at 11am works well. She also recommends uploading on payday weekends.

3. Take good photos

Chloe explained the importance of the initial image, stating: “The first photo that you select is the first photo that someone is going to see,” and emphasised that all photos need to be “clear, crisp” as well as recognisable.

She further advised maintaining a “clear background” to ensure potential buyers can see the item properly. Chloe noted her success in selling items by laying them flat on a bed rather than hanging them up on a hanger, despite not knowing the reason why she found this method more effective.

4. Upload at least five photos

Content cannot be displayed without consent

She said that you need to be “taking photos of everything” including labels, the front, the back of the item, special features the item has – “whatever you can”.

“You have 20 photos, so use it,” she urged.

5. Do your pricing research

Chloe shared that she’ll manually do her research when it comes to pricing, searching “exactly what it is” that she’s selling to get an idea about how much she should sell it for.

She said that you should often ignore the “suggested price” that Vinted gives, as it usually ranges between £1 and £4, regardless of brand, and is “incorrect”.

6. Describe your item accurately using keywords

Chloe said: “Accurately describe what the item is”. She said that there have been too many times that a description just reads “brand new,” when some more detail wouldn’t have gone amiss.

She said that keywords are mentioned when you describe your item, and that is what will get it views because it’s “what people will be searching”.

Chloe also explained that if there are any faults with the products, you should “write it in the description” to be transparent with the people who are going to be buying it.

7. Use AI to help write descriptions

She said using AI has “changed the game” for her, and she uses Snapchat’s ‘My AI’ or ChatGPT to assist her in writing descriptions for the items she’s selling.

She said you can send AI a picture and it “writes a description for you” which you can just “copy and paste” into your description box on Vinted.

8. Be kind

She urged people to be nice, kind, “send measurements” and more photos if you have them and someone requests them.

Chloe also said when you’ve sold something, send picture of proof, and a picture of the shipping receipt to keep the buyer up to date with what’s happening with their parcel. This means people “will want to come back and buy from you again”.

She also said that replying quickly helps on Vinted, because if someone sends you an offer and you take a while to accept, they may go and find that item elsewhere.
