A fuming Butlin’s guest has branded one of the holiday chain’s resorts ‘disgusting’ and ‘horrendous’ after cutting her stay short. She claims that staff made a surprising admission
A fuming holidaymaker has branded a Butlin’s resort ‘disgusting’ in a scathing review, describing the atmosphere and guests as ‘feral’.
The woman called Sarah posted her brutal one-star rating after cutting her four-day stay at the Minehead branch short, as she couldn’t cope with the allegedly ‘horrendous’ accomodation.
She claims that upon arrival, she had requested to change apartments, having looked through the window and noting she would ‘not let a dog sleep in it’.
Unfortunately, the new accommodation – located in another area of the park – was no better, according to the disgruntled reviewer. It comes after women claimed ‘Our Jet2 holiday was ruined because we flew to the wrong Spanish island by mistake’.

Noting the ‘putrid’ smell as she opened the door, she wrote: “Vomit was on the bedding… apparently this was clean bedding with carrots and peas too behind the bed. Up the walls on the carpet. Blood on bedding on the toilet. S**t left on the toilet. The kitchen was grimy and the lounge too.” [sic]
Sarah said she had visited customer relations and requested new bedding, quilts and mattress protectors. But it wasn’t just the room that caused an issue.
She continued: “Kids drinking and swearing constantly, arguing, windows being smashed, doors being kicked in. No security to sort it out. Feral is an understatement be it adults and kids.
“We didn’t eat there or use any of the facilities due to hygiene and feral guests. It’s like being in a hell hole …The entire place is horrendous and is beyond repair ..I honestly don’t know how it’s still open.” [sic]
She further claimed that many of the local pubs and even on-site staff had expressed their concerns and described it as a ‘hell hole’. “If one of the red coats can say it, it’s bad. One in particular said he can’t wait to leave at the end of the summer.”

However, not everyone agrees with Sarah’s assessment, which was posted in June 2023. In a review shared a month ago, another visitor wrote in a lengthy five-star review: “We’ve just returned from our most amazing family break at Butlins Minehead, marking our fifth year visiting, and we honestly can’t praise it enough!
“From start to finish, everything exceeded our expectations — especially the Premium Dining and All-Inclusive Drinks package, which was worth every penny…
“…Overall, we’ve returned home with full hearts, happy kids, and wonderful memories. Thank you Butlin’s Minehead for such a fantastic holiday. We look forward to seeing you again next year.”
Another recent five-star review reads: “Had an absolutely amazing long weekend at Butlin’s Minehead. A party of 20 of us ranging from 2 to 65 and we all had something for each of us and kept us entertained throughout. Resort was well kept and the staff were really friendly and helpful. Look forward to going again.”
