A woman had a sleepover at London’s Natural History Museum on her bucket list for a while – people cannot believe how expensive it is, but she insists it is totally worth it
A woman has divided opinion after forking out over £200 to stay overnight at the Natural History Museum – but she insists the price was totally worth it.
The South Kensington museum offers a ‘Dino snores’ adults-only night – said to include fun, food, science, music and films. One woman, Jordan Rose, says that the special treat at her “favourite” museum has been on her bucket list for ages.
Speaking about what’s on offer, the Natural History Museum states: “Not only will you get to sleep over in the iconic Hintze Hall beneath the beloved blue whale, our grown up guests will be treated to a three-course dinner as well as loads of awesome activities to keep you entertained all night.”
Jordan, from Kent, booked on to see if it is really worth it and shared her experience online. The food and adventures content creator said: “I spent over £200 to sleep over at the Natural History Museum. Am I crazy, or was it worth it?” After queuing up with other attendees, Jordan entered the museum with her sleeping bag in hand, checked in and was presented a glass of fizz on arrival.
She explained that she was given a lanyard and itinerary for the evening, and guests were divided into four groups. “The group activities are all the same but they are just staggered throughout the evening,” she said on TikTok.
Jordan enjoyed dinner in her pyjamas at the T.Rex Restaurant for a three course meal – which is included in the price of the ticket. You choose your menu options before you attend and she opted for a heritage tomato salad to start, beef short rib with tenderstem broccoli and mashed potatoes for her main course. She said the meat was “melt in your mouth” and “so good”.
To finish she has a white chocolate and caramel cheesecake which she dubbed “so good and a great slice size as well”, she noted. “I honestly wasn’t expecting the good to be as good as it was…but honestly everything was fantastic,” she concluded.
She later enjoyed a free access to selected galleries, a live animal workshop with ethical handling company ZooLab, a science show, a pub quiz, stand-up comedy show, and a late-night film marathon. She enjoyed a harpist playing music from the Jurassic Park films.
Speaking about the sleeping situation, Jordan commented: “We stayed up as late as we could which I believe was until around 1am and then we decided it was time to head to bed. I even slept surprisingly well, considering I was sleeping on the floor of a museum with not much padding underneath me.”
The following morning she enjoyed a breakfast buffet and headed to the gift shop before she left. Concluding her experience, the museum fan added: “For me this experience was 100% worth the money. It was a once in a lifetime opportunity to do this and I’m so grateful that I finally got to do it.”
“Spending your own money on cool experiences is never crazy,” commented one individual on Jordan’s video. “This is brilliant,” agreed another. “£200 is such a bargain considering most boring normal hotels are near that anyway,” added a third.
But others did not seem as convinced. One individual said: “I wish it wasn’t so expensive, I wanted to get this as a gift for someone.” “£200?! Sorry what,” wrote another.
“I’d love to do this but I’d be unable to sleep on the floor,” pointed out one other.
Another added: “I wish I could afford to buy this for my boyfriend for Christmas. Sadly being on benefits I simply don’t have the money. But one day I will save enough and surprise this with this!”
The experience is priced at £220 per adult, and £198 per ticket if you are a member. The events are running next year on January 25, February 21, March 7 and April 4. There are also children and family sleepover options.
