A man had a plane ride to remember when he got talking to the woman next to him and thought he’d found the girl of his dreams – but one small detail changed everything
Love can find you when you least expect it, and for some people, that can mean a chance encounter on public transport or even while waiting in the queue at the supermarket checkouts. But you should always be careful before embarking on a romance with a stranger, as you can’t be sure if they’re telling you the truth about who they are.
One man ran into this exact problem recently when he believed he’d found his soulmate on a plane. The 31-year-old man explained on Reddit that he was flying for a business trip on an airline that does not allow you to book seats in advance, and he was gobsmacked when a “gorgeous woman” sat down in the seat next to him.
During the flight, the woman was “super flirty” toward him, and they even made plans to meet up once they landed in Los Angeles, US, so they could spend the night together.
He said: “We discussed our plans and where we were flying, and she said that she was going to LA to visit some friends, and I told her I was going for work. At one point, she got super handsy and even ended up placing her leg over mine and moved the armrest between us to get closer.
“Since I assumed she was single, I quickly made plans. I told her where I was staying and that we should grab a drink later. Turned out she was staying at the same hotel as me, which was crazy. We ended up exchanging numbers, and we made plans for that evening, and I had a feeling things were going to get spicy.”
When the plane landed, the woman “quickly unbuckled her seatbelt” and made a speedy exit as one of the first people off the plane, which the man found “odd” but didn’t question it too much.
That was until he saw her again at the luggage claim – with her arms around another man and a wedding ring on her finger.
He added: “After I walked down the ramp, to my surprise I saw her, except this time she had a wedding ring on her finger and was holding hands with a man as they were walking to get their bags.”
The man texted her later that night to confront her about who the man was, but she “brushed it off and avoided the topic”. But when he went to the hotel bar that evening, the woman and her husband were there – and she kept making “flirty eye contact” with him from across the bar.
Commenters on the post were baffled by the woman’s actions, with many saying they felt sorry for the man as he had been lied to by the woman. Many also chastised him for giving away his information, such as the hotel he was staying in, to a complete stranger.
One person said: “It sounds like the two of them were working together as con artists. They got your information as you were their mark. This sounds like [it could have been] a very highly dangerous situation for you.
“In the future, be very wary of someone being super flirty with you and you don’t know who they are. Next time, don’t give out your information or where you’re gonna be staying. I know you were caught off guard by her behaviour and felt flattered, but that’s the con. The scenario had so many red flags to it.”
Another added: “Some say you were a pawn in a married couple’s role-playing. I am more suspicious. Handsy strangers mean you drop your guard when they are sliding around your pockets.”
A third wrote: “She cheats, which you already know. But you have to be more careful telling strangers where you’re staying.”
