A British mother and her 12-year-old son flew from Manchester to Agadir, Morocco, with just hours on the ground to explore before having to head back to the UK — and they only spent £115
A British mum and her 12-year-old son went on a whirlwind day trip to Morocco, spending just £115.
Setting off from Manchester at 5.45pm, Melanie Evans and her son, Max, landed in Agadir by 10am local time to a warm welcome of 27C heat.
With only seven hours to explore, the duo adventured on November 30, taking in an impressive array of sights including a relaxing beach break and a cable car ride up to the Kasbah. No strangers to rapid travel, Melanie has also seized single-day opportunities to visit Barcelona, Milan, Dublin, and Belfast.
The quick escape to Morocco was driven by the desire to soak up some sun, but Melanie was back doing the food shop at Aldi with Max before they knew it. Reflecting on the swift excursion, Melanie, who hails from Chesterfield, Derbyshire and works as a car salesperson, stated: “It was just lovely being with my little boy.
“We enjoyed the day, but it felt as though, in one minute, we were in Morocco; the next, we were in Aldi, doing the food shop.”
Their day was packed with activities from lounging on the sandy shores to dining at McDonald’s after a scenic hillside ascent.
Melanie reminisced: “He was playing away on the beach, which was nice to see, and he loved it.”
Despite the short visit, Melanie expressed her appetite for more, saying: “I’d go for longer. It was good to have a little taste of what it is like.”
The trip was impressively cost-effective, tallying up to a total of £178.14 – with flights costing £57.57 return for two people, airport parking adding £12, taxi fares in Morocco coming to £20, cable car tickets to the Kasbah being another £20, and a meal at McDonald’s priced at £11.
Flights are often cheap to Agadir, for example, you could fly from London Luton at 7am on January 19 2025 to Agadir and return at 10.25pm in the evening, landing back down at London Gatwick at 1.15am the following day for £47.
Alternatively, you could fly out from Manchester at 7.35am, landing in Agadir at 12.35pm and returning in the evening at 9.05pm, landing back at Manchester at one minute to midnight, on January 31 2025, for £61.
If you fancy going to a different city in Morocco, you could fly from Liverpool to Marrakech on January 12, at 7am landing at 11.40am and then returning at 8.35pm and landing back in Liverpool at 11.20pm for £68.
Staying a night to stretch your holiday out a little also doesn’t cost much. Hotels in Agadir are relatively easy to find on a budget too, with many costing between £15 and £40 a night. Marrakech is slightly pricier for hotels, with most costing between £30 and £50 a night.
