‘I tried Breakfast at Tiffany’s just like film but one thing was disappointing’

The 1960s classic film Breakfast at Tiffany’s, starring Audrey Hepburn, inspired one food lover to visit the flagship Tiffany store in New York City to find out what eating there is actually like

Breakfast at Tiffany’s, the iconic 1960s movie with Audrey Hepburn as stylish Upper East Sider Holly Golightly, has cemented its place in pop culture. The film follows Holly’s story as she meets Paul, a budding writer who becomes a neighbour in her apartment block.

One of the film’s most memorable scenes sees Holly nibbling on a croissant and sipping coffee outside the Tiffany & Co store on Fifth Avenue, New York City, peering dreamily at its window display. Tiffany & Co, known for its luxury jewellery with its signature robin’s egg blue packaging, is recognised worldwide both from the film and the wish lists of accessory lovers alike.

Ertan Bek, a New York-based food enthusiast, took to TikTok to let fans of the movie know that you can actually enjoy breakfast at Tiffany’s, sharing his solo dining experience.

The Blue Box Café by Daniel Boulud invites customers to indulge in breakfast, lunch, or afternoon tea in a venue that pays homage to the brand’s storied past, nestled inside The Landmark at the company’s flagship location.

Ertan kicked off his TikTok video, saying: “Let’s see how expensive a solo breakfast at Tiffany’s is in New York City. Breakfast at Tiffany’s, I’m about to live every girl’s dream right now.”

He then entered Blue Box Café, confirmed his booking with the host, and was escorted to his seat.

The self-proclaimed ‘introvert lunching around’ took his place and commented: “Look at this view, and the inside is gorgeous, but it reminds me of Louis Vuitton’s cafe.”

Once comfortably seated, he was given hand sanitiser on a cloth in a small bowl by a server before a waitress handed him the menu.

Ertan found himself torn between ordering the more traditional Breakfast at Tiffany’s or choosing something from the a la carte menu, so he got some guidance from the waitress.

He confessed he was drawn to “the most American thing” available, “which is a cheeseburger,” but the server immediately shot back with a firm “no” and steered him towards the breakfast option instead.

Following her recommendation, Ertan used the wipe to cleanse his hands before being served the $68 (£50.14) breakfast, featuring eggs topped with caviar, a croissant and yoghurt parfait, amongst other delicacies.

The solo diner described the presentation as “gorgeous” and awarded it a perfect 10 out of 10 score.

He began by pouring himself a cup of tea costing $8 (£5.90) before diving into his morning feast.

Beginning with the caviar nestled in an egg shell, he shared that it was “so good” before moving on to the buttery, plain croissant.

Ertan finished off the rest of his breakfast away from the camera and told the waitress “everything is good.” However, there was one issue – he suspected what he had eaten wouldn’t fill him up, so he ordered the cheeseburger as well.

His initial reaction to the $32 (£23.59) burger, served with chips, was that it appeared “amazing” and was “beautifully stacked.”

The foodie noted it “smells really good” before taking his first bite.

He praised it as “perfect medium rare” and went so far as to proclaim it “definitely one of the best burgers in New York.”

He rated the experience a solid eight out of 10 and assured the waitress that everything was “perfect.”

Ertan’s final bill came to $126 (£92.90), and with a $30 (£22.12) tip on top, his total spend was $156 (£115.01).

Wrapping up, he advised: “Gentlemen, definitely take your girl out here, it’s definitely worth it. Amazing service, amazing food.”

The TikTok video has sparked a flurry of more than 1,300 comments, with many users admitting their surprise at discovering you can actually enjoy breakfast at Tiffany’s.

One user exclaimed: “OMG I thought Breakfast at Tiffany’s was an abstract term meaning let’s party all night and go buy diamonds in the morning my whole life.”

Another confessed: “I thought breakfast at Tiffany’s was standing outside the store peeking in the window while eating a croissant with a cappuccino.”

A third chimed in: “I am the only one who didn’t realise that you can actually have breakfast at Tiffany’s? I just thought it was a film, and then a song.”
