‘I tried Primark’s viral gym wear for long hike and have major observation’

By staff13 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Primark’s viral gym wear has changed the game for many thanks to its buttery soft texture. Workout gear can be expensive and sometimes prices people out of feeling good in the gym

Danielle is a Social News Reporter for the social newsdesk, serving titles including The Mirror. She previously worked as a Lifestyle Writer for The Mirror. She has a special interest in books, feminism, stories from the LGBTQ+ community, and fashion. She’s also worked for Reach PLC’s InYourArea team as a Senior Community Content Curator.

Workout wear these days does not come cheaply. That is, of course, unless you go to Primark. However, many may be concerned that it won’t wear very well, and the leggings might be see-through, the built-in bra won’t hold you correctly (especially if you’ve got bigger boobs) and the quality isn’t as buttery soft as your favourite big gym brands.

I’ve been seeing Primark’s gym wear all over TikTok, with people claiming it’s lovely, flattering, and actually withstands a workout. So, what better way to test it out than by walking all over the Lake District, clocking up over 15,000 steps?

There are various items you can pick up as part of the collection, but I opted to wear the ‘Buttery Soft Flare Leggings’ (£12) and the ‘Buttery Soft Long Sleeve Top’ (£12).

The thumbholes make the long sleeve feel significantly more luxurious than the price tag, and I was really impressed by the material’s feel and how buttery soft it actually was. Primark did not come to play when it comes to the quality of this item.

I actually have a similar top from Tala, which cost over £40, and sadly doesn’t have thumbholes. I don’t know why, but thumbholes just make me feel more like I’m ready to accomplish something!

Leggings are certainly something I usually struggle with. By the time they fit my hips and bum, oftentimes they don’t sit tight enough on my waist, so I didn’t have high hopes for these.

But before I started walking, they seemed to fit perfectly, hugging in all the right places and making me feel supported for a spot of power walking.

After wearing them for hours on end and climbing hills, walking through forests, and generally exploring, I can safely say I was not conscious of what I was wearing once.

There was no tugging at the waistband, pulling my leggings up because they’d fallen down. There was no readjusting the top because it had ridden. The leggings were also the perfect length for me, as usually, flares would drag about four inches on the floor – but they sit perfectly just above my trainers.

The whole outfit just sat in place the whole time, which is a real win! It’s not see-through, it doesn’t feel cheap, and for £24, you really can’t go wrong.

Sometimes, when TikTok goes wild for something, you have to try it for yourself, and this was one of those instances. Often, you can be left disappointed, and wondering why the internet is going wild for something so average, but this gym wear is anything but average.

It’ll save you a lot of money when compared to more luxe brands, so if you’re working out on a budget, it’s still affordable. It’s comfortable, hugs the body perfectly, and also looks really good when you’re grabbing a post-workout coffee with a pal!

Plus, you can click and collect it now, so you don’t even have to go rooting through the rails at your local store. It’s a win-win.
