Marly Garnreiter, 27, was losing weight, felt tired all the time and also had night sweats and itchy skin
A woman has shared her story of how Chat GPT diagnosed her with blood cancer. Marly Garnreiter, 27, initially dismissed her symptoms of night sweats and itchy skin as anxiety and grief following the loss of her father Victor, 58, to colon cancer.
She was also losing weight and decided to input her symptoms into Chat GPT, which suggested she might have blood cancer – a diagnosis that “sceptical” Marly chose to ignore. However, after constantly feeling fatigued and experiencing chest pressure, she decided to visit her GP, who conducted a scan and discovered a mass on her left lung.
Marly was then referred to a pulmonologist who performed a biopsy, confirming the diagnosis of Hodgkin’s lymphoma – a type of blood cancer. Now, Marly has begun chemotherapy treatment, which she will undergo for four to six rounds, taking everything “step by step”.
Marly, a strategist from Paris, France, said: “I started to lose a lot of weight when he’d just passed away. I kept eating normal amounts of food but I thought it must be the anxiety making me lost a lot of weight.
“I’d accepted you lose weight with grief. I was having night sweats and itchy skin. Again I thought it was anxiety.”
Marly lost her father in January 2024 – two years after his colon cancer diagnosis in 2022. Her symptoms began shortly after his death and although she sought medical advice and underwent blood tests, all results came back normal.
Her doctor agreed that her symptoms were likely due to grief. However, as time went on, Marly began to question if there was something more serious at play.
She explained: “I felt I was processing the grief well. I thought it must be something. In May I sent a video to my friends – I had asked Chat GPT and it said I had blood cancer. I ignored it. We were all sceptical and were told to only consult real doctors.”
But in January 2025, Marly revisited her GP, sharing: “Around Christmas time I started to feel something was wrong. I had a constant pain in my chest. I was tired all the time.”
After her visit, her doctor found a “big mass” on her left lung and immediately referred her to a specialist. A subsequent biopsy led to Marly’s cancer diagnosis on February 10, 2025.
Overwhelmed with emotion, she confessed: “I felt a lot of anger. I felt like everything was unfair. I didn’t want my family to go through this one more time.”
Before chemotherapy, which commenced on March 1, Marly managed to retrieve some eggs for freezing, giving herself hope for the future. She is set to undergo four to six rounds of chemo.
Reflecting on her outlook, Marly said: “I’m feeling confident for the future. It’s really important to listen to our bodies. Sometimes we tend to lose our connection with our inner self. It’s important to be in tune.”
