A woman was left horrified when she sat down to enjoy her lunch and was approached by a stranger who “fat-shamed” her over her food – and made a horrible comment about her body
Sometimes, your thoughts are better kept to yourself.
We’re taught from a young age that if you don’t have anything nice to say to someone, you should probably not say it at all, but it seems as though some adults have forgotten this golden rule. Being approached by a stranger who compliments you on your outfit or your hair can do wonders for your confidence – but what would you do if someone you’d never met came up to you out of the blue and insulted you?
That’s the situation Ebony Matheson found herself in when she decided to take her lunch break in a public park and was approached by a stranger who “fat-shamed” her and told her she was eating too much food. Ebony caught the interaction on camera as she was filming a short video to send to her friend while she was at work.
The woman, from Melbourne, Australia, shared the footage she captured on TikTok as she was left absolutely gobsmacked at the way the stranger spoke to her. The clip began with Ebony stating she was about to tuck into some rice paper rolls, before she looked up and saw the other woman approaching.
Before she was even able to take a bite of her lunch, the other woman – who was only heard off-camera and not seen – aggressively asked her: “What makes you think you can eat all of that food? It is a lot.”
Stunned by the outburst, Ebony could only say, “excuse me,” in a baffled tone before the woman demanded to know how many rolls she had in the packet. When she tried to say there were three, the woman came back with a scathing line that left Ebony absolutely seething.
She told her: “No, I’m not talking about your fat rolls. I’m talking about the food.”
The stranger didn’t stop there either, as she then questioned why Ebony also had a can of Coca-Cola to accompany her lunch. She said she had the fizzy drink because she doesn’t drink coffee, and was told that was an “ironic health choice”.
Fed up with the outrageous comments the stranger was making, Ebony asked the woman who she was, but was just told that “wasn’t relevant”. She was then told that the woman had been “watching” her from a park bench for some time, before dropping a rude five-word comment when she said: “I’m really embarrassed for you.”
At the end of her video, Ebony tells the woman she’s going to leave, and the clip cuts off as she gets up and ends the conversation. She wrote in text on the clip that she eventually went and bought dessert to cheer herself up from the baffling interaction.
Commenters were left equally confused by the stranger’s outburst, with many doubting whether the clip was real as they couldn’t believe anyone would be that rude. However, Ebony insisted that it was real and she had just wanted to “run away” when the woman approached her.
One person said: “In public? To a stranger? Unprovoked? Nothing excuses this behaviour, but the circumstances are just wow.” Another added: “The rage I felt listening to this.”
