One woman who has been a surrogate has revealed whether she regrets it or not. It comes after actress Lily Collins revealed she had welcomes her daughter Tove Jane via a surrogate
The topic of surrogacy is on everyone’s lips right now after actress Lily Collins revealed her and husband Charlie McDowell had used a surrogate to have their first child.
The couple were forced to hit back at “unkind” comments about their choice as they announced the birth of daughter Tove Jane. The news saw many people debate how ‘ethical’ having a surrogate is, andwith that in mind, one woman who has been a surrogate herself has revealed whether she regrets it.
Teale, who posts on TikTok as @tealekelleyy, recently shared a video with her 253,000 followers on the site all about being a surrogate.
The blonde, who is a mum herself, shared her views in a video as overlay text read: “Surrogacy regrets??” She started the clip by saying: “I’m gonna be so honest up front when I say this. Do I regret doing my surrogacy?”
Teale then revealed more about her journey as a surrogate, saying: “For those of you who don’t know, I delivered a baby over a year ago for another couple. Baby was not genetically related to me at all, it was made from their egg and their sperm, I just carried it for them.
“I feel very grateful that I’ve had the journey that I’ve had, that I carried the baby for the couple that I carried it for. They are the coolest people in the world. Some of like my dearest friends to this day. I’m going to see them next week and see the baby.
“To this day, everyone asks, ‘Do you regret your surrogacy? Do you wish you didn’t do it? Was it hard? No, like not at all. It was cool. It was like a really cool thing for me to do. That pregnancy was easy peasy.”
Teale said that her brain “separated everything at the very beginning” and she felt “no motherly bond” and “no emotional connection” to the baby at all.
She also said that the compensation “significantly helped”, saying: “As a single mum, it’s a good wage to live off of. I had enough to afford my rent, my bills, but I didn’t have enough money to save.
“So by doing my surrogacy, it gave me a huge chunk of change to save, so I paid off a bunch of debt, I put money down on a house. I don’t think that’s the position I would have been in if I didn’t do the surrogacy.”
Teale said she wouldn’t tell people to just “do it for the money”, but she did admit it was a “nice perk”.
She concluded by saying: “It was the coolest thing I ever did. I made life-long friends, I got to travel across the country to see them and have somewhere to stay. It was pretty great, I’d say.”
