‘I went into charity shop and hit jackpot with luxury bargain’

By staff13 June 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A man was left flabbergasted when he went into his local charity shop and found an item that sells for £145 brand new for a mere fraction of the price – but some weren’t impressed

Hitting the jackpot when you’re charity shop shopping can make you feel on top of the world. Spying designer items for a fraction of the price, or even trending items, can give you a buzz of excitement like no other, and may even have you laughing all the way to the till.

Of course, it’s important to remember that charity shops have a very important purpose – to ensure that they have money to continue to fund their charitable efforts. But, if you can bag a bargain while helping out, what’s not to love? That’s why TikToker @dusty_cartridge was so excited when he went into the Cancer Research Charity shop near him and found a fancy item for a really good price.

Coming out of the store, he gushed that he’d found a “£100 casserole dish,” urging people to “always inspect pots and pans this colour,” meaning the Le Creuset orange shade.

He looked at the dish, analysing whether it was the real deal, showing that currently, a second-hand dish was selling on eBay for $119.99 (£89.09).

He then flashed up another one selling for £88.46 in this country, which was also listed as “pre-owned”.

“It’s always best practice to just check the condition of these items, because it really does have an effect on the price,” he encouraged.

The TikToker then looked “at the bottom of the unit” to see whether there were ones online that were also charred.

In the end, he decided that “for this price, it’s worth a gamble,” because the dish, which is £145 brand new, was just £20 in the charity shop.

In the comments, someone wrote: “I would not pay that price for it, it’s been well used. You’ve been robbed for it”.

He responded by saying he’d “update” once he’d “sold it”.

Why is it good to shop at charity shops?

Shopping in charity shops is beneficial for several reasons. Firstly, it supports good causes, as the money spent goes directly to charitable organisations, helping them fund important work in the community or globally.

Secondly, it is environmentally friendly because buying second-hand items reduces waste and the demand for new products, which in turn lessens the environmental impact of manufacturing and transportation.

Charity shops also offer unique and affordable items, making it possible to find one-of-a-kind clothing, books, and household goods at lower prices than in regular stores.

Additionally, shopping in these stores encourages a more sustainable and mindful approach to consumption, promoting the reuse and recycling of goods instead of contributing to a throwaway culture.

Finally, by shopping in charity shops, you can often discover treasures and vintage finds that add character and individuality to your wardrobe or home, meaning that you can stand out from the crowd and be totally unique.
