First year university student Jasmine Kaur became the youngest ever winner of The 1% Club – and has spoken to Daily Mirror on exactly how she will spend her winnings
A student has revealed she won just under £50K on a quiz show, and has big plans with what to do with her winnings.
Jasmine Kaur, 18, took the crown after beating 99 other contestants on The 1% Club gameshow, making her the youngest winner in the shows history.
Hosted by Lee Mack, the seriously tough quiz sees 100 people answer increasingly tough questions in order to win money – and Jasmine walked away with the prize pot.
Now, she has revealed all the items she will be purchasing with her huge check – and said she is no longer worried about being a broke student.
The 18-year-old told Daily Mirror the first thing she will do is book herself a luxury trip to either Tenerife or Turkey for a much needed break away from her studies. Studying Classics at University College London, Jasmine was starting to worry about the financial strain, watching money go out of her account, and none coming in – and said she no longer has to worry about money.
While she was starting to look for a part time job, she now no longer needs to, and can focus purely on her studies. “It’s good because now I won’t have many of the typical broke student thoughts and worries.” Jasmine also said she will put her money to some more ‘boring’ things such as putting a chunk into savings and “I will maybe put a little bit towards my university fees,” and added: “There are so many different things I would like and want to spend it on. I really want to be able to travel as well.”
Jasmine didn’t tell any of her family or friends she had won, but instead waited until the show had aired in February, despite the filming taking place in November, for them to find out the news. It meant she had to go two months keeping quiet about her fortune.
She recalled the time she went shopping with her sister before going on the show, and the pair were in Harrods trying on some designer coats. Knowing they were out of their budget, Jasmine tried on a coat with an eyewatering £18,000 price tag – and her sister joked once she won the 1% Club money she could afford it.
“Now I might go back and buy that coat, but it’s funny because it was something way out of my price limit, but I can actually afford it now, and my sister had no idea.”
Jasmine grew up watching gameshows with her family and said: “As a child I watched Countdown as soon as I’d come home from school and I’d do all the questions. I love game shows and I used to watch The Chase with my grandad, so when he watched me on The 1% Club, he got emotional when he saw me win.
“I like The 1% Club as it’s more logical thinking and more about how your brain work rather than what you know and being the youngest ever winner has given me so much confidence in myself.”
