‘I write sex scenes for a living and you’d be surprised by what inspires me’

By staff19 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

Jaimee Bell, 33, is a sex scene writer by trade. Though the job sounds super saucy, she recently spoke to us exclusively to explain how the role is a lot different to what people think

While people have all sorts of sexual fantasies, one woman perhaps explores them more than most people, as she dedicates her career to bringing people’s sauciest desires to life. Jaimee Bell, 33, Editorial Director at Bloom Stories, first started writing about sex back in 2019, writing for a number of digital publications and also doing some freelancing work.

She then joined audio erotica platform Bloom Stories in 2020, which has thousands of followers on Instagram, and this is when she really got into writing sex scenes. Bloom work to create original erotic audio stories, voiced by voice actors, and cover every type of sexual fantasy, with each of their narratives having a “spice” rating, so she’s used to penning sex scenes at both ends of the spectrum.

For example, earlier this year, the team launched a spicy adaptation of Jane Austen’s Pride & Prejudice. She admits she had “a lot of fun” writing original sex scenes for the audiobook.

Explaining how she came to work in the role, Jaimee said: “I really loved writing about sex as a freelancer and I’m bisexual and poly, so I’ve long been interested in how we express our sexuality, how celebrating sexuality can still be stigmatised and how people often struggle to explore the full spectrum of their sexual identity.

“Writing about sex and working as an erotica producer gives me the opportunity to have these important conversations and empower others to explore their sexuality safely, which is really important to me.

“We like to think we’re super progressive as a society but, really, we still live in a world where so many people feel unable to express their sexuality and feel the need to conform. The content we’re creating at Bloom Stories gives people permission to explore their fantasies, likes and dislikes in a safe and ethical space.

“Crucially, audio content enables a user to centre themselves in the narrative and use their imagination as they experience a scene or fantasy.

“This is in contrast to traditional visual porn, which tends to feature unrealistic portrayals of sex and of what ‘sexy’ people look like. At Bloom Stories, we aim to create inclusive, realistic erotic content that isn’t created for the male gaze.”

Jaimee also noted there are some big pros to her job. According to her, the best part about it is she gets to hear from users about the scenes and stories they love. On the flipside, the hardest part is trying to bring all the creative ideas to life.

Though the team is growing, she doesn’t think there will ever be enough people to produce every single story they’d really like to make. However, she likes how she is able to help people in lots of different ways.

“For some people, it’s as simple as listening to our content for a mood or energy boost,” she added. “For others, it’s about dipping their toes into kinks they haven’t fully explored yet.

“Others use our content to get ideas, and we know lots of couples enjoy listening together as foreplay. Ultimately, we want people to feel seen and empowered by the content we create. We’ve heard some incredible stories of people who’ve used our content to overcome trauma, or to explore their sexuality after losing a long-term partner later in life.”

Speaking of what inspires her, Jaimee added: “Inspiration comes from everywhere. We’re led by user preferences – the topics, themes and tropes we see consistently performing well.

“We’re also led by user fantasies. Users can submit ideas via our app and website, and we’ll often use these as starting points for stories. We also look at pop culture. We’re creating a Halloween series this year inspired by Jennifer’s Body.”
