A British teenager has died after plunging from the third floor of a hotel in Spain.
The tourist, who was 19, died instantly in the fall at the four-star Ibiza Rocks Hotel at the same Ibizan party resort of San Antonio where a Scots holidaymaker lost his life just a fortnight ago. Two ambulances were sent to the scene but paramedics say there was nothing they could do to save him. The tragedy, which is being investigated by police, occurred just after midnight. The Civil Guard confirmed this morning he was a British national. Last Monday, a 25-year-old British tourist died in hospital from injuries he sustained in a fall from a supermarket car park in San Antonio the previous day.
He was rushed to an intensive care unit at a private island hospital following the incident. The Nuestra Senora del Rosario Polyclinic confirmed he had succumbed to his injuries, saying around midday last Monday: “Regrettably and despite all the efforts of medical personnel, the patient who fell yesterday in San Antonio has died due to the severity of his injuries.”
The hotel where the latest tragedy has occurred is the same one where a Scots holidaymaker fell to his death on July 7.
Evan Thomson, 26, from Aberdeen, was on holiday with pals celebrating his birthday. Paramedics were called to the scene but could do nothing to save him.
His mum Lel Kellighan revealed the news on social media a few days after her son died, saying: “I’m absolutely heartbroken to write and tell you all, earlier this week my son Evan was in a tragic accident whilst on holiday with his friends in Ibiza and sadly passed away.
“We are all absolutely broken. Please allow us some time.” In the days after Evan’s death his loved ones raised questions about safety and blasted the hotel where he died over the way the situation was handled.
Evan’s sister Teila said: “Ibiza is known for its partying and it just stuns me that they don’t have higher safety precautions.
“Pray nobody else suffers.
“And, once it did happen, the hotel’s response was just completely heartbreaking; almost as if it never happened. I pray no other family has to go through this.”
Friend Blair Robertson, 25, who had been with Evan before he died, said: “Security took us away to front desk. Paramedics didn’t arrive for about 30 minutes.
“Forensic officers didn’t speak English. We were just standing there, not knowing what was going on. Reception gave us false hope.”
