Iran has fired approximately 200 missiles into Israel today in reprisal for its invasion of Lebanon – but Israel has now vowed to fight back as tensions escalate
Israel has vowed to attack Iran tonight – after Iran fired approximately 200 missiles today.
Iran’s attack was in reprisal for its foe’s invasion of Lebanon, and saw repeated waves of ballistic missiles arrow into Benjamin Netanyahu’s country. The Israeli military has told its citizens to shelter this evening.
And now the military, known as Israel Defense Forces (IDF), has said the nation is ready to fight back tonight. Its translated statement reads: “There is no damage to the competence of the Air Force and it will continue to attack tonight in the Middle East in a powerful way.”
In a separate message, Daniel Hagari, the spokesperson for the IDF, pledged that the attack “will have consequences”. He added that the country remained on high alert. The situation across Israel and the region is extremely tense tonight.
Rear Adm. Hagari stressed the Israeli Air Force “continues to operate at full capacity, and tonight will also continue to strike powerfully in the Middle East, as has been the case for the past year.”
“The Israeli and US air defence systems operated effectively. There was close cooperation in detection and interception,” he added, talking about the Iranian attack of 180 missiles on Israel.
“We are still investigating [the result of the attack] and do not want to give the enemy all the information. Iran carried out a serious act tonight and is pushing the Middle East to an escalation. We will act at the place and time of our choosing, in accordance with the guidance of the political echelon. Tonight’s event will have consequences.”
The Israeli military says Iran has fired missiles at Israel, and is warning Israelis to shelter in place. The announcement Tuesday followed warnings from a senior U.S. administration official that Iran was preparing to “imminently” launch a ballistic missile attack on Israel.
The US official, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to discuss the intelligence, said the U.S. is actively supporting Israeli defensive preparations.
Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had issued a warning Monday to Iran, which backs Hezbollah and Hamas. He said: “There is nowhere in the Middle East Israel cannot reach.”
