McFly star Danny Jones has been crowned King of the Jungle after winning this year’s I’m A Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! as talk has already turned to his next steps
Danny Jones could set his sights on huge new ITV roles following his I’m A Celebrity success.
The McFly singer and guitarist, 38, was crowned King of the Jungle last night as he beat Coleen Rooney to the top spot. He became emotional when hosts Ant and Dec revealed him as winner as Danny said: “It feels amazing, I can’t even talk.” He went on to thank fans for their support and joked it felt nice to ‘be liked’.
He said: “Thank you from the bottom of my heart. I gave my all in there, it’s a lovely feeling to be liked. Thank you so much, I appreciate this so much.” Following his jungle win, many fans are waiting to see what Danny will do next. ITV are reportedly keen to sign the star to one of its main shows alongside the likes of Joel Dommett and Bradley Walsh.
Danny is already a judge on The Voice alongside his bandmate Tom Fletcher but could soon add more shows to his roster. “Danny is the embodiment of everything ITV loves,” a source told the Sun. He’s fun, family friendly and incredibly popular. Watching how popular he was on I’m A Celeb made him a key target for other shows they have coming up. Danny is a brilliant musician, but he is also great on TV.”
They said ITV are hoping he will sign for another series of The Voice and think there will be other shows “he could be perfect on”. Before this year’s I’m A Celebrity winner was announced, Danny and Coleen spoke about their three-week experience. Danny said about his time: “This is totally insane. I’ve learned so much about myself, and that’s because the camp mates were unbelievable.
“They made it so easy for us to get through the hard times. I’ve had some of the hardest times I’ve ever had, some of the highest highs, and just tried to have fun along the way. It was way harder, harder than what it comes across on TV, but it’s real in there. You’re hungry, you’re tired, you’re lethargic.”
Danny won over a legion of fans thanks to his time in the Australian jungle. Last week, fans admitted they were in tears after Danny open up about his relationship with his dad. He revealed to campmate Oti Mabuse that he wanted to change his middle name, which he got from his dad. The musician shared that his dad doesn’t speak to him, and said: “It’s just weird because I don’t feel I’ve really healed with it maybe.”
He then shared that fellow campmate Barry McGuigan, 63, was serving as a father figure to him in the jungle – just moments before Barry was evicted. “You can go to therapy, but you still crave your dad and that’s what’s hard. That’s why I get so much satisfaction out of Barry,” he said. Danny explained that his dad was his best friend, but things quickly changed: “When he left us, that’s when I had to grow up real fast, I bought my mum’s house. I was 18 years old, I bought myself a flat in London and I bought my mum’s house, and I put my sister through university.”
