Ahead of Mother’s Day (March 30), our fashion writer has taken a look at the top picks for gifting the special women in your life including stylish bags, jewellery and homeware
Every family has that one person who orchestrates the gifting season like a pro. Usually, it’s the mum who makes sure everyone has a gift they love be it for birthdays or Christmas – but what about when it’s her turn to be spoiled rotten?
In my house, I’m the gifting expert who makes sure every family member gets a thoughtful gift they’ll love for years to come. And this Mother’s Day, I’ve been seriously impressed by some of the offerings on the high street, but in particular, British lifestyle brand, FatFace.
The popular retailer, known for its high-quality, sustainably sourced clothing and relaxed, everyday style, has curated a selection of feel-good gifts that provide the ultimate way to say ‘thank you’ to the mother figure in your life. From elegant accessories to practical bags and cosy home touches, I’ve handpicked some of the most standout pieces, along with a few alternative brands to consider, perfect for gifting on March 30.

One failsafe gifting option for Mother’s Day is jewellery, and FatFace offers a range of silver and gold tone pieces. One option, the Gold Tone Stone Oval Drop Earrings (£14.50) have been hailed as ‘very cute and classy’ by shoppers. They offer a timeless design that can transition from day to night effortlessly, boasting an organic hammered pebble with a green stone that delicately hangs from the lobe.
While they are well-priced, those looking for more unique or high-end materials might prefer jewellery brands like Astrid & Miyu or Monica Vinader, which focus on gold vermeil and semi-precious stones.
And once you’ve picked out some jewellery, you may want to consider a jewellery box for her to put them in, like this Orange Bee Embroidered Travel Jewellery Box (£19.50). Made from 100% cotton, it features an embroidered bee design that makes it look way more expensive than its under £20 price tag. However, its small size may limit how much jewellery it can hold, so if you’re looking for a more spacious option, brands like Oliver Bonas offer stylish, larger jewellery cases with velvet linings.
If your mum is someone who loves home fragrance, then the White Multi Bee Print Ceramic Diffuser costs £29.50 and infuses any space with a scent of tuberose and jasmine. The bee print design is sweet and would look lovely in a cottagey style home, but if you’re after something a little more luxurious, well-established home fragrance brands like Neom Organics or Jo Malone, offer a wider selection of high-quality diffusers, as well as candles.
For a practical but on-trend gift, the Valetta Chocolate Brown Bag is almost guaranteed to be a hit. It’s made from a soft leather material and can be worn either on the shoulder or across the body. The bag is also available in black and tan, and previously came in a light yellow shade too, though it was so popular that it sold out.
Coming in at £75, the versatile design has been praised by customers, with one commenting: “Beautiful soft leather. Classy. Will buy another colour. Just right size for work.”
Another added: “Lovely chocolate brown soft leather, fits all my daily essentials and more . The perfect handbag as it has two straps for shoulder or across the body which is very handy for me being disabled, well done FatFace.”
Equally as chic are these Ginger Terracotta Wide Leg Drape Trousers, which are £69. Made from sustainably sourced TENCEL Lyocell, they offer a flattering wide-leg silhouette and tick the box for comfort and versatility. They come with all the features you need, including belt loops, pockets, subtle pleats and a secure zip fly, and according to FatFace, ‘look great on all shapes and sizes’.
And if your mum is someone who needs to put their feet up, customers seem to love the Kaia Natural Strap Slippers (£42.50). This version boasts textured non-slip soles and a supersoft faux fur lining, coming with an ornate strap on the back of the ankle, which helps keep the slippers in place – perfect for pottering around the house.
But looking at reviews, it’s worth noting that some shoppers found they came up a little small, commenting: “I’m used to wearing slip-on slippers all the time but they were getting to the point I couldn’t wear them anymore. However I found these slippers on the website and I’m telling you these are the most comfortable slippers I’ve worn. I’m normally a size 6 but I’m wearing a 6.5 as 6’s feet were touching the end of the shoe.”
The only gifting category FatFace doesn’t seem to cover is beauty, but there are plenty of other retailers where you can get your makeup and skincare treats. One great value option is the Made for an Icon Beauty Box at Marks and Spencer, which features ‘over £130’ worth of skincare and fragrance – but shoppers can snap it up for £30.
Meanwhile, at Boots the Origins Round The Clock Radiance Skincare Gift Set is packed with premium skincare goodies that would usually cost you £92.90. The set reduced to £26 and contains four of the brand’s top skincare picks.
