‘I’m a struggling single dad but manage to feed family-of-three for just £1.40’

By staff25 February 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

A struggling dad has been showcasing online how he has been managing to feed his three children on the cheap, and many have rushed to support him, but others have been left questioning his cleanliness

A struggling dad has revealed how he manages to feed his children for just £1.40 as the cost of living crisis continues to hit families across the UK.

With inflation in supermarkets making food more expensive and energy bills on the rise, people are having to drastically cut back on extra spending and find budget alternatives to keep their homes warm and put food on the table.

One father has been struggling to keep his house clean as he’s been avoiding buying cleaning products to save money to feed his family. He’s been sharing online how he’s been counting his pennies and manages to prepare meals for his three kids for less than £5 per meal.

The single father, who lives in London, has been posting his meal preparations on TikTok via his page Tok savings. The dad uploaded a short clip, with the caption ‘feeding my children on a low budget’, leaving many shocked.

‘I bought Harrods’ £10 ham and cheese toastie and it was missing crucial thing’

He recently shared how he prepared a meal for three on just £1.40. The dad put a frying pan on the hob, added some oil, cracked two eggs and scrambled them.

Then he added a tinned can of peas from Asda and a packet of wholegrain micro rice. He seasoned it with salt and kept stirring, mixing the ingredients together until softened.

In another video, the devoted dad has warmed hearts online after revealing how he manages to whip up a meal for his family with just £1.15, despite resorting to counting pennies and 5p coins to feed them.

He showed off the budget meal he created for his family – a tin of sardines in tomato sauce for 45p and 25p curry flavoured instant noodles from Asda, that he jazzed up in the pan and microwave and served with a dollop of tomato ketchup.

While the cleanliness of his kitchen sparked remarks, many netizens were touched by his plight and rushed to commend his efforts. One person reflected: “Everyone’s talking about the cleanliness of this male’s home but no one is talking about this father who is present and providing a meal. Never judge a book by it’s cover, you had no idea.”

Others were quick to bolster his spirits with encouraging words: “You are a very good father, never stop going,” said one. “Good job, that’s a great meal I would have all the time,” added another.

“Good luck to you bro, hope you’re OK,” commented a third. One other showed their support, and said: “Thank you for posting these. It helps me and also breaks my heart.”

Many are convinced his steadfast dedication will lead to brighter days, as one admirer assured: “You keep going and never give up, something amazing will bless you one day,”.
