A mum was so fed up of ‘depressing people’ in the UK and spotting ‘horrific scenes’ in high streets that she decided to move her family abroad – and has not looked back since
A mum left fed up with the UK and “seeing horrific scenes” could not wait to leave, and has moved her family to Dubai – and many say they want to follow in her footsteps.
With cold temperatures and dark nights dominating in the UK, you might be dreaming of living somewhere warmer. One mum, Aimee Duncan, decided she’d had enough of the “depressing” UK and made her dream become a reality.
Now she spends her days enjoying sunshine, feeling safe, and surrounding by positive people. The mum recently took to TikTok to share the reasons for her move to Dubai – she hasn’t looked back since.
UK citizens can move to Dubai with the right via and sponsorship. From career paths to tax-free income and a high quality lifestyle, there are lots of reasons Brits are moving to the UAE.
There are currently more than 240,000 British expats estimated to live in Dubai alone, as well as over 5,000 British companies operating in the UAE, according to a report from the Expat Insider.
Aimee shared her reasons and said: “Here’s why I am moving my family to Dubai. Number one is that I genuinely do not trust the people here. I could not trust my little boy to walk home from school or to walk himself to school. I do not want to live in an area like that.”
She added: “You go to the high street and see horrific scenes – people drinking, doing drugs on the street – not the type of thing you want to come across on your way to work or dropping your little one off at nursey.”
She also pointed out that she thinks Dubai will offer a multitude of opportunities for her family. Aimee explained: “There’s just no opportunities in the UK, whereas opportunities in Dubai are insane – both for my little boy but also for our business. There’s so many more opportunities in Dubai, so many more inspirational, motivational people.”
And by no surprise, another big reason for her move is the weather. Aimee noted: “Thirdly, the weather in the UK and just the general environment in the UK is depressing.” She believes that “everyone in the UK is depressed” and often finds people moaning about the weather, their job or politics.
“I just want to feel positive and the minute I stepped in Dubai, I just felt this sense of safety, positivity,” she added.
The social media expert, who boasts 11,900 followers on TikTok, says she quit her 9 to 5 job and claims to now earns a six-figure salary in one month. People rushed to comment on her video – and many said they hope to move to Dubai too.
One individual wrote: “Seriously thinking about doing the same thing for the same reasons. I’ll be following your journey. Wishing you all the best.” One individual who has already moved to the UAE added: “Dubai is safe, I love it here.” Another wrote: “Dubai is so safe. I was walking around at 3 in the morning – no one bothered me at all.”
“Don’t blame you,” said another. Others noted some downfalls, as one said: “I wish I could move but the struggle saving money to move there.” Another noted: “It’s not that easy to get into Dubai in terms of jobs, it’s a very competitive market! Very different to UK.”
