Incredible city 3 hours from UK with its own beach and 20C temperatures in April

Dubrovnik in Croatia is the perfect destination for a city break. Just a short flight away, visitors are bound to go back in time with the beauty and charm of this Mediterranean hidden gem.

The holiday season has started. If you are looking to do some sightseeing or relax by the beach, Dubrovnik in Croatia offers visitors the best of both worlds – and it just takes less than a three-hour flight to the city from London.

It boasts a gorgeous Adriatic coastline dating back to the 7th century. It has a lot of history, medieval architecture, and amazing views of the Adriatic Sea and a nickname of ‘Pearl of the Adriatic.’

It also has a pleasant Mediterranean climate, making it a great destination for those interested in outdoor activities and exploring. It can get quite busy during the summer months. However, for those looking for a short trip away from home, the temperatures in April are between 18C and 20C.

The Croatian gem has become popular amongst tourists since the famous Game of Thrones had quite a few scenes filmed there. Also, the fact its Old Town is a UNESCO World Heritage Site. Its gastronomy is also delicious, its fresh seafood dishes like grilled fish, mussels alla buzara, and black risotto are a must-try. Other traditional meals include the pasticada and peka, and a sweet dessert called rozata.

Things to do in Dubrovnik

From palaces, towers and churches to Game of Thrones’ King’s Landing backdrop, there’s plenty to do in Dubrovnik – and you’ll never get bored of it. The best thing about visiting this Croatian gem is that visitors don’t need to spend a lot of days, with two or three days being more than enough to see most sights.

Walk the city walls: It stretches for nearly 1.25 miles and surrounds the Old Town. The walls date back to the 12th century, with visitors passing fortresses like the Minceta Tower, Bokar Fortress, and St. John Fortress. Each offers a unique vantage point and incredible views of the city’s terracotta rooftops, the Adriatic Sea, and nearby islands.

Dubrovnik’s Old Town: A UNESCO World Heritage Site. Visitors will be taken back in time with its many well-preserved landmarks. Some of the must-see places include the Rector’s Palace, the Sponza Palace and the Dubrovnik Cathedral.

Game of Thrones tour: As the primary filming location for Game of Thrones, fans of the show can visit key locations such as Fort Lovrijenac, the Red Keep in the series, and the Jesuit Staircase.

Dubrovnik Maritime Museum: Located in the St. John Fortress, it’s the perfect place to learn about the history of the ancient town.

Banje Beach: From high-end bars to beach clubs and its mixture of white pebbles, Banje Beach is the best place to spend quality time with your loved ones and soak in all the vitamin D. It also offers some unique views of the town.
