As part of a new TV series airing this weekend, Scotland The New Wild, BBC has released breath-taking images of some of the country’s unique wildlife rarely ever seen on camera
Incredible images have been captured of rarely-seen Scottish wildlife as part of a new BBC TV series.
Filmed in hundreds of locations across remote islands to busy cities, Scotland The New Wild, has been more than three years in the making. The trilogy of episodes explore the Islands, Lowlands and Highlands of Scotland and shows the diverse wildlife that the country has to offer.
Narrator, Thoren Ferguson, said: “Perhaps you think you know Scotland… this land of proud tradition, rugged mountains, sparkling lochs and heather clad hills. But look again, and our country may surprise you… with its vastness, its subtlety and its splendour. For this is a wild country, on the cusp of change, a land where animals and plants are fighting to reclaim their place in the natural order. This is Scotland The New Wild.”
Moments from the series include an encounter between a sheep and short-eared owl chick on the Hebridean Machair, gigantic plankton-feeding basking sharks and the activities of a beaver family living within a short distance of the city of Perth.
As well as the focus on the wildlife and habitats, a short section at the end of each episode presents interviews with key people working with conservation initiatives across Scotland.
We can exclusively share a selection of the photographs with you ahead of the show’s launch this weekend.
