This archipelago of 10 unique volcanic islands is the must-visit destination of the summer, home to multiple pristine beaches and hiking trails. And now, it’s easier to get to than ever before.
If you’re looking for sun and white sands this summer, there is an island off the west coast of Africa that should be at the top of your bucket list. And it’s easier than ever to visit now that easyJet has launched its first-ever flight to the Caribbean-esque destination.
The budget airline is now offering a service from London Gatwick to Sal, an island in Cape Verde, three times per week. The new flight route launched on March 31 and will depart every Monday, Wednesday and Friday to the sunny island group..
The island country of Cape Verde is made up of ten volcanic islands, with Sal being one of the most beloved by international travellers. The island nation is a perfect place for British beachseekers as its dry season coincides with UK winter, running from November through to May.

During these months, humidity levels also drop and rainfall is at its lowest. The non-stop sunshine will be even easier to enjoy if you travel at the beginning or end of peak season, in May and November respectively.
Even during winter, Cape Verde enjoys average temperatures of between 25-30C. Another reason it is a great choice for British travellers? Cape Verde is only one hour behind the UK (two hours during BST) so travellers won’t have to contend with jetlag before or after their holiday.
Cape Verde is ideal for beach-lovers and adventure seekers. The most well-known beaches are Santa Monica Beach on Boa Vista – known for its tranquil atmosphere and expansive golden sands – and Santa Maria Beach on Sal, which offers access to pristine turquoise waters.
Once you get to Sal, it is easy to hop islands and explore the full breadth of the archipelago. Travellers that have enjoyed their fill of water sports and sunbathing in Sal and Boa Vista can then hit the country’s cultural capital of Sao Vicente or the rugged hiking trails of Santo Antao.
In the press release announcing the new service, Natasha Marson, easyJet holidays Head of Trade Distribution said: “We’re thrilled to be launching our brilliant package holidays to our brand new destination, Cape Verde. Sal is a fantastic island with so much to offer, including year-round sunshine, so we’re confident it’s going to be a huge success with our travel agent partners and their customers.”
The six-hour flight from London Gatwick to Sal ranges in price depending on the month of travel, with the cheapest flights in April begin at around £125. In addition to flights, easyJet offers a range of travel packages for Cape Verde that will become available beginning in May, including the following:
