The Hollywood heavyweights announced their split in November 2011 and officially lodged their divorce papers two years later. Screen idol Ashton attributed the split to “irreconcilable differences”.
Demi, now 62, also sought ‘spousal support’ and requested her younger ex-husband foot her legal bills. The high-profile ex-duo were officially granted a divorce on November 26, 2013, following a rather intriguing relationship.
Demi was 40-years-old when she crossed paths with a then 25-year-old Ashton in 2003 at a dinner party hosted by a mutual friend. At the time, Ashton was hosting the iconic Saturday Night Live, while Demi was amidst a whirlwind press tour for Charlie’s Angels: Full Throttle, marking her acting comeback.
The duo instantly clicked, with Ashton accompanying Demi home and engaging in an all-night conversation before falling asleep. In her memoir, Inside Out, Demi recalled: “He was 25, I was 40, but I’m telling you: we couldn’t feel it We were totally in sync from our very first conversation.”
The lovebirds eventually tied the knot on September 24, 2005, at their Beverly Hills residence – with over 100 guests witnessing their vows, including Demi’s ex-spouse, Bruce Willis. Despite their seemingly perfect relationship, the couple faced numerous scandals, from threesome escapades to infidelity and Demi’s relapse into alcohol.
Demi confessed that after two decades of sobriety, she began drinking again, desiring to share a glass of wine with loved ones. “Ashton was enjoying a glass of good red wine when he said, ‘I don’t know if alcoholism is a real thing – I think it’s all about moderation.’ I wanted to be that girl, the girl who could have a glass of wine at dinner or do a tequila shot at a party. In my mind, Ashton wanted that, too,” she disclosed.
Later, Demi compared her love for Ashton to an “addiction”, stating it was “more devastating than alcohol because it took me seriously away, emotionally.” During their marriage, Kutcher, who rose to fame on Punk’d, suggested introducing a third person into their bedroom to spice up their sex life.
Demi, a mother of three, pledged to prioritise their love, saying: “I didn’t say no, I wanted to show him how great and fun I could be,” as she candidly discussed their sexual adventures. However, she later admitted that their risque encounters should’ve remained private, labelling it a “mistake”.
Demi was deeply shaken when rumours emerged that Ashton had allegedly been unfaithful during a lads trip to San Diego. Ashton has refuted these allegations, responding via Twitter shortly after Demi’s memoir was published, writing: “For truth, text me +1 (319) 519-0576.” He later confessed: “I was about to push the button on a really snarky tweet.”
The actress found out about his cheating through a Google Alert, and then revealed that Ashton had tried to justify his actions by pointing out that they had brought two other people into their relationship. But after he cheated again, she remembers that he “admitted it right away”.
During her appearance on Good Morning America, she recounted: “I asked if it were true and he admitted it right away and I think my response was, ‘Are you f**king kidding me…? ‘ I think I felt like I could barely take a breath.’ Then I saw my son, daughter, and wife and I deleted it.”
Co-star Scott Eastwood confirmed the affair during an episode of Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen. He confided in Jon Cryer: “If it makes you feel any better, he did sleep with one of my ex-girlfriends, but she was my current girlfriend at the time. Eastwood also mentioned that this infidelity was “the catalyst that broke him [Kutcher] and Demi up. “.
Post-divorce, Demi has stayed single, while Ashton has married Mila Kunis and they now have two children together.
