Lisa Faulkner claims her husband John Torode and his MasterChef co-star Gregg Wallace have merged into each other, as she shared her true thoughts on their long-standing friendship

Lisa Faulkner has opened up about being the so-called third wheel in her marriage to John Torode as his bromance with MasterChef co-star Gregg Wallace continues to flourish.

Reflecting on the chef’s friendship, Lisa, 52, believes that after over two decades of working together, the pair have merged their thoughts and mannerisms.

Recalling a moment from the BBC cooking show, she said: “When someone messes up a sauce, the way they look at each other! And if a contestant is slow getting their plates out, they both twitch in exactly the same way. I honestly think they are one of the great TV couples.

“They look at each other and their thoughts are synchronised. I’m not even sure we have that. Hopefully we have something else.”

In response, John, 59, reassured his wife that what he shares with her is “a totally different relationship”, adding: “For a start, I fancy you more.”

Speaking with The Times, the chef reflected on how much Gregg was involved in his life off-camera, including early morning calls to discuss his daily tasks.

John revealed that since he expressed his displeasure in an interview however, Gregg has thankfully taken a step back.

John and Lisa, who exchanged wedding vows in 2019, are the faces behind ITV’s culinary show John & Lisa’s Weekend Kitchen.

Though the dynamic of sharing a kitchen while hosting their show has occasionally led to minor bickers, this hasn’t disrupted their on-set chemistry.

Voicing his pet peeve with Lisa’s culinary habits, he said: “My thing with Lisa is I make a huge pan of her favourite seafood curry for date night and two days later she won’t touch it because she’s anxious about the seafood being off.”

On the flip side, Lisa confessed that John’s musical taste is something she struggles with.

“I can’t bear it when John sings along to Supertramp. That’s where our seven-year age gap really shows,” Lisa explained. “Give a Little Bit by Supertramp and Mr Blue Sky by ELO – I just can’t do it, I’m sorry.”

John went on to disclose that Lisa also jokingly refers to him as “the Simon Cowell of the kitchen”, a title he playfully rejects.

Combining their culinary skills again, they’re set to release a new cookbook called John and Lisa’s Kitchen: Everyday Recipes from a Professional Chef and a Home Cook.

Lisa sums up the essence of the book, revealing: “John brings the discipline and science; I bring the home-cook passion. Then it’s a battle to get them in.”

The next instalment of their cooking series returns to screens later this year.

Celebrity MasterChef continues tonight at 9:05pm on BBC One.
