Grantchester star Robson Green lives in a 350-year-old cottage among three acres of land and woodland which overlooks a river in a small market town where he was born
Robson Green, the main star of Grantchester, enjoys a peaceful existence in a picturesque market town with his abode boasting some remarkable features.
At 60, Robson is famed for his portrayal of Detective Inspector Geordie Keating in the ITV detective drama since 2014. His acting credits include Casualty, Soldier Soldier, Wire in the Blood, Being Human, and Waterloo Road, and he’s also made a name for himself as a presenter on shows like Robson Green’s Weekend Escapes, Extreme Fishing, Extreme Fishing Challenge, and Tales from Northumberland.
When he’s not on the small screen solving mysteries or traversing the countryside, Robson resides in a stunning 350-year-old cottage in Hexham, Northumberland, with his girlfriend Zoila Brozas. The TV star was born in the idyllic town but grew up in nearby Dudley, Cramlington, before returning to his roots to live by the River Tyne, which he “loves” for its breathtaking scenery.
In a past interview with Radio Times, Robson shared, “I’ve got Hadrian’s Wall to the north and there are pheasants and deer in the garden every morning.” The cottage’s allure was partly due to its provision for Robson’s passion for fly fishing.
Opening up further about his home, he told The Sunday Times in recent years, “Outdoors, I’ve got three acres. I have a vegetable garden, a little orchard with pear, plum and apple trees, a herb garden for cooking and an eclectic mix of flowers. I also like sitting on a lawnmower and driving around.”
When asked about his favourite room in his home, Robson told the publication, “The conservatory, which I’ve added on. It has a 270-degree window that overlooks the river. I can see salmon leaping, kingfishers, otters, deer, kestrels.
“I’ve got resident hedgehogs and stoats. It’s spectacular to see them. I also have a telescope because I love gazing into the night sky. In Northumberland, we have some of the darkest skies in Europe.”
While he rarely shares photos of his abode, during the lockdown, he spent a lot of time outdoors and delighted fans with a glimpse at his colourful garden. Alongside a snap of his fields of yellow daffodils, he wrote, “Guess what I did during lockdown. Dad would always tell me when you’re growing flowers you’re nurturing life no matter how small or insignificant, it’s good for the soul.”
His fondness for Hexham is understandable; it’s a vision of beauty with a rich history, marked by the magnificent Hexham Abbey, making it a desirable place to live. Speaking to Reader’s Digest in 2016, he shared, “Northumberland is a beautiful county; I still live there and have never been comfortable in cities. I find all that concrete too grim.”
Highlighting the appeal of Northumberland even further, the actor told Living North in 2016, “The sounds you hear – be it the oystercatchers, kestrels, ospreys – or spotting deer, badgers, otters, or dolphins and seals off the Northumbrian coast, people would pay a lot of money to have that on their doorstep. We’re very privileged.”
Grantchester continues every Wednesdays at 9pm on ITV One and ITVX.
