Tourists keep coming back to Blackpool year-after-year, with its impressive coastline and amusements keeping that retro, candyfloss, seaside feel for decades
A UK seaside town has held strongly onto its title as Las Vegas of the North – with its famous strip, stunning illuminations and fun-packed activities.
Infamous Blackpool, in Lancashire, has continued to attract a sea of tourists over the years. The iconic town offers a mixture of unique character and nostalgia and is known for its one-of-a-kind entertainment. Much like Las Vegas, Blackpool is packed with a vibrant atmosphere with buildings welcoming visitors to walk along the Golden Mile. The iconic strip invites partygoers with its flashing multi-coloured lights and is home to casinos, nightclubs and amusements.
Roars of laughter and chatter fill the strip, with the area being labelled as a must-go-to destination. Locals boast about the town, which is home to the iconic Blackpool Tower, Pleasure Beach, and Illuminations. And while some people have never visited, the Blackpool Tower Ballroom is largely known – with it featuring most years on Strictly Come Dancing. The Ballroom first opened in 1984, but still possesses its magic with its stunning ceiling decor, glistening chandeliers and huge dancefloor.
The seaside town was recently named the friendliest largest destination in the UK and even overtook Brighton on the list. It comes after a survey was conducted by train company LNER, using the latest ONS (Office for National Statistics ) data. The research found that Blackpoolians are highly fulfilled with their life and are full of happiness, The Gazette reports. It also revealed that the town features the highest five-star rating of restaurants and hotels.
Claire Smith, of members association StayBlackpool, said: “This is something I’ve always known about Blackpool but hearing it from this study is wonderful. Blackpool is deservingly known for its friendliness and we’re a very accepting town, we’re inclusive towards everyone.” In response, locals commented on the findings on a Facebook group called ‘I Love Blackpool’. One person wrote: “I’m from the south coast, born and bred, but I absolutely love Blackpool! People are so friendly. Back again in the summer.”
Another user wrote: “I love Blackpool been going for 4 years now and booked up for May and November next year can’t wait everyone is friendly.” A third person said: “I’m not surprised, I miss the friendliness of my home town, when I visit and take a walk down the prom, strangers still speak to one another.”
And visitors have also vouched for Blackpool to be one of the most friendliest places. One traveller wrote on TripAdvisor: “Great day out. I wish I had stayed longer. Gorgeous beach quieter than expected. Lovely area and, great getaway. Beautiful sea views.” Another added: “The whole atmosphere on the seafront is fab, the views are stunning, I just sat with doughnuts and coffee in my hands and enjoyed.”
