Narciso Mimbela Rosas, a 65-year-old train inspector, is in intensive care after being dragged under a train when he leapt onto railway tracks to try and save a 14-year-old girl
A hero train inspector has been left with serious injuries after leaping in to save a girl who fell onto railway tracks.
Narciso Mimbela Rosas, 65, was rushed to hospital yesterday after being dragged by under a train in Callao, Peru, in a desperate attempt to rescue the girl. He remains in an intensive care unit, where he is said to be conscious after suffering fractured ribs and multiple head injuries.
Narciso Mimbela’s son told reporters that his father had been watching the tracks as he waited for a colleague, and spotted the girl perilously crossing with the train just seconds away. It comes as a dad was jailed after a boy, 7, was found dead inside washing machine.

The inspector then jumped to the tracks below to whisk the girl to safety, but was reportedly pulled under the train by the girl’s vest, which had got caught, causing him to be dragged along the tracks.
His son said: “When he took the little girl out, he didn’t notice that her vest got caught on the train, and that’s what dragged him. Her legs seemed to be trying to get inside him, and when he struggled to the other side, that’s where he fractured his rib”
He admitted he was worried about his dad’s recovery given his advanced years, and told Peruvian newspaper La Republica: “He suffered a blow to the head, and at 65, he can’t always remain conscious. Sometimes he falls asleep, so we have to be vigilant.”
He said his father remains under observation in intensive care, and upon improvement would be transferred to another ward where he can recieve visitors. The son denied reports that his father was wearing headphones at the time of the accident, preventing him from hearing the oncoming train.
National Police and security personnel at the station have launched an investigation into the incident. The driver of the train was taken to a local police station to provide a statement.
Last year, shocking footage captured the moment a toddler was saved from a near-tragedy after he dropped onto a train track in front of a crowd of passengers.
The three-year-old, who was with two adults, was seen running towards the edge of the platform at Newark Northgate railway station in Nottinghamshire, last month.
In the 36-second clip, the boy was recorded as he stood over the edge of the platform, before he stumbled and fell backwards.
The man who was with the toddler quickly dashed across the platform, whilst a hero bystander jumped onto the line and retrieved him. The close call saw a high-speed train travel through the station without stopping, just 22 seconds later.
Station customer services assistant Olivia Timms, who witnessed the incident, said: “I think the fact a train came through the station at speed just seconds after emphasised just how awful the outcome could have been. Thankfully, everyone made it home safely that day and we want to make sure that happens every day.
