If you’re considering a home makeover listen up as beloved interior designer Kelly Hoppen revealed the one thing you should never do when it comes to painting your walls
Multi award-winning interior designer Kelly Hoppen, 65, issued a ‘public service announcement’ to all husbands after being inundated with messages from their wives about a painting faux pas.
With over 40 years’ experience in the world of interior design, it’s safe to say Kelly knows a thing or two about styling a room. After all, she has designed the properties of private clients, such as Victoria and David Beckham, as well as five-star hotels and restaurants.
The TV personality often shares her wisdom and interior tips on social media where she is regularly inundated with questions and asking for advice.
Taking to TikTok, the former Dragon’s Den star told her 121,000 followers: “I’m getting so many messages of people asking me to speak to their husbands or partners asking them to paint the skirting boards the same colour as the walls.
“This is a message for everyone’s partners: never paint the skirting board a different colour to the walls, trust me, it’s an offence to do that. You paint the skirting boards one colour, the wall one colour and the ceiling one colour.
“Unless it’s a completely different scenario and you need to have a ceiling that’s darker because it’s a smaller room but generally skirting boards and walls, architraves and doors should all be the same colour.”
Despite the expert advice, many people were against the idea of keeping the skirting boards the same colour as the walls. One user replied: “My walls in the living room are sage green, I’m not painting my doors and skirting and ceiling sage green. It would look awful. Unless I’ve misunderstood.”
Another person added: “Nope. I always love my trim white.” However there were plenty of fans who piped up. One user responded: “She’s talking sense everyone, please listen. It’s timeless, it’s chic. Kelly is the one.” And someone else penned: “We just colour drenched our bedroom, my partner thought I was mad until the final result. Looks so luxe!”
