Tech YouTube channel shares alleged designs of what could the the most expensive iPhone to date
Apple users have been eagerly anticipating the latest iPhone upgrade since the launch of the iPhone 16 in September 2024. As tech fans wait to see what new features will be included in the next launch, one video has revealed what could be the thinnest phone from the brand yet.
This week, Front Page Tech shared a render depicting what it believes is the potential final design for the latest iPhone, which they’re calling the ‘iPhone 17 Air’. The clip shows what they expect to be an ultra-thin design, measuring a tiny 5.5mm at its thinnest point. But this would come at a price – with the device set to be the most expensive iPhone ever, at an eye-watering $1,300 – more than £1,000.
YouTube host Jon Prosser has been a well-known face within the online tech world for over a decade and has had a mixed track record when it comes to Apple release rumours. He was the first to reveal the design of the AirTag in 2020 and also remembered for sharing accurate details of the iPad Mini 6 ahead of its launch.
New renders of the alleged iPhone 17 Air show the expected design to have a brand new camera bar feature across the top of the device’s rear shell. On the left side of the bar, you can see a single rear camera, and on the right, a microphone along with an LED camera flash.
Just last week, the same page shared what they believe to be the design for the iPhone 17 Pro. Its renders also showed this device having a camera bar design.
Revealing the supposed new ‘Air’ design, he claimed: “Rumours suggested an ultra-thin and ultra-premium iPhone with a starting price at around $1,300, which would make it more expensive than the Pro models. It would make it the most expensive iPhone ever.”
The new model would reportedly have a single camera on the back, and would be powered by a new A19 chip. But Prosser said he wasn’t entirely convinced by the rumours, saying “one piece of this puzzle must not be accurate”.
“That one piece,” Prosser went on to say, “is probably the price.”. When taking out the alleged price of the new model, you’re left with a model that he believes looks a lot like a replacement for a plus model.
The YouTuber added: “The camera bar on this puppy looks a lot more like a pixel camera bar thanks to only needing a single lens there, and the thing with the flash and mic being moved over to the right, I’m just going to give it to you straight, man, that’s a pretty iPhone.” It seems Prosser is pleased with the alleged designs saying that he’d like to start a movement for Apple to “revert back to single lenses”.
Fellow tech fans shared their thoughts on the potential new iPhone, with one writing: “I wish Apple would just bring back aluminium back phones, I have only ever used wireless charging a few times and I would l choose durability over convenience every time.” Another criticised the renders, saying: “I don’t know anyone who would want a thinner phone over a better camera setup and larger battery.”
The page commented on its own video adding that “The phone is so thin, that the USBC port isn’t / can’t be centered on the Y-axis. The port is closer to the back of the phone than it is to the front.”
