If you’re planning to head down to Glastonbury Festival this June, you’re likely to have an even better experience if you follow one seasoned festivalgoer’s survival tactics

Glastonbury Festival is almost like living wild for five days – and that’s one of the amazing things about it, however, there are some things about the festival that are not altogether pleasant when it comes to personal hygiene. But don’t worry, as help is at hand, one woman has been to more than 15 huge festivals – and she’s shared her top survival tips.

From making loo trips more bearable with nifty hacks, to how to survive the sun beating down on you for hours on end, these top tips will help you make the most of the Glastonbury experience next week. The festival runs for five days and starts on June 25, so the countdown has well and truly begun.

Cult Beauty spoke with seasoned festivalgoer Sophie Barker, the woman who’s been to more than 15 festivals. Sophie knows the in and outs when it comes to surviving these huge outdoor camping events – and you can follow her tips to make your festival life easier.

One handy bit of advice from Sophie is to take an S-clip along with you, so you can “hook your day bag onto the back of a toilet door so you don’t have to juggle it on the floor”. This will mean your bag stays clean and dry while using the toilets on site, as there will be nowhere else to put it inside the loo space.

Carrying your own hand sanitiser is also important, as stations on the festival can run out during peak times, so pop one of these in your day bag too. Sophie says to always bring loo roll – as not much is supplied at the festival and to “keep some in your bag at all times”.

And for a bit of a “treat”, Sophie suggested this: “Make a scented face mask – Naturally, the toilets around Glastonbury can sometimes have unpleasant smells lingering… to get around this I bring a facemask with me and lightly spray it with a favourite travel sized version of body spray or perfume, just to mitigate any bad smells. I find the travel-sized Sol De Janeiro ones are often the best for this!”

Another tip from Sophie is to “try a wash-and-go spray”, she suggested this for “a quick refresh”. She said “use a spray like Luna Daily’s Everywhere Spray to Wipe with a reusable flannel for an eco-friendly strip wash”.

Next, she mentioned bringing along a solar-powered shower, Sophie explained that these showers “warm up in the sun and can be rigged up at your tent or railings around the perimeter of the festival for a decent rinse”.

Sophie also gave this top advice, to pack a nail brush, as she explained, even if you’re conscious of staying clean “festival grime gets everywhere”. She suggested the best time to use it as “at the end of the day to clean under your nails”.

She also advised: “Don’t forget electrolytes – They’re a hangover essential and help keep your hydration and energy levels up over the festival.” She also warned about too much sun over the five days and said festivalgoers must be aware of the risk of getting sunburnt.

Sophie said SPF is “one of the most essential beauty items to bring with you” you could also pop a sunhat in your bag as you will potentially be in the sun for hours each day as there is no escape from the weather at the festival.

She added: “There is no shade at Glastonbury and being out in the sun all day can soon lead to burning your skin, which is the last thing you want to have to deal with in a field. Even when it’s raining, you need to make sure you’ve got a good amount of SPF on and reapply it through the day.”

Trifonia Asmar, beauty spokesperson at Cult Beauty, added her advice: “Festival beauty is less about perfection and more about practicality. With the right products and a few clever hacks, you can stay feeling fresh and comfortable for longer, even when you’re dancing in a field for six days straight. From a wash and go spray, to S-clips, these insider tips will make a world of difference.”
