Jack Grealish told to QUIT Man City after Thomas Tuchel and Pep Guardiola bombshells

By staff13 June 2025No Comments6 Mins Read

Manchester City star Jack Grealish finds his career at crossroads and has been told to quit the Etihad Stadium with it being suggested that he will be left out of his side’s Club World Cup squad

Shay Given has told Jack Grealish to LEAVE Manchester City ahead of Pep Guardiola’s £112m splurge. The England star has endured a tricky few seasons at the Etihad Stadium since his lucrative arrival from Aston Villa.

He has fallen out of favour under Guardiola and now looks set to be left out of City’s squad for this summer’s Club World Cup. England boss Thomas Tuchel has already told Grealish that he needs regular football in order to book his spot for next year’s World Cup.

And speaking exclusively to Mirror Football, former City goalkeeper Given has suggested that he would be best served leaving the club. He said: “I think he needs to get back to playing football again.

“He looks like that’s not going to be at Manchester City in the short-term. He could go out on loan for a season, do brilliant, come back and still be a Man City player. I think for whatever reason, the cup final and last month or two he’s not really been involved, on the bench and not be called upon. I’ve been there myself.

“He’s a top player, he just wants to play football. Forget about all of the stuff that goes around it, the hair, the shinpads and everything else. At the end of the day, he’s a top player and still a top player and I believe he could play for any club.

“And Jack as a person just desperately wants to play football. That’s what he enjoys, that’s what he wants to be and there’s still a huge talent there, albeit I think he should play more central rather than out wide but that’s an argument for a different day.”

While Grealish’s exit could potentially be on the agenda for City over the coming months, they have already been busy in the market. Wolves defender Rayan Ait-Nouri has completed a £36.3m move to the Etihad.

And he was joined by Lyon star Rayan Cherki in a £30m move. and AC Milan’s Tijjani Reijnders who sealed a move to the blue half of Manchester in time to be part of their Club World Cup squad.

Added to the £180m outlay that City forked out in January, Given believes that his former club will be in fine fettle heading into the Club World Cup and next season’s Premier League campaign. He added: “If you get them in, it’s the perfect time for blending them in and getting to know your mates and getting to know the system and getting to know Guardiola as a coach and all that kind of stuff.

“You normally have to use a few pre-season games but this is a competitive stage straight away. Ait-Nouri is obviously a very good player and it’s maybe a bit of a light spot for Manchester City over the years at left-back.

“You’ve had a centre-half there or Zinchencko, or a midfielder. I think it would be quite refreshing if he came in. Cherki is obviously an exciting player. He’s [Reijnders] a big-money transfer as well.

“Going back to City over the course of the season, they dropped off a cliff, which finishing third for them maybe it is. But I think they maybe should have spent last summer. They took their foot off the pedal or their eye off the ball, the players that won the league last year were good enough to go again.

“I think City had a few buys in January but a lot of younger buys, apart from Marmoush. You think the guys in January were younger buys but I think the three guys will be present for sure and no doubt Guardiola will want to bounce back next season and show he’s a real deal.”

City’s lucrative business comes after a disappointing season in which they finished the campaign without a trophy – only the second time that has happened under Guardiola. Given believes that the Spaniard will be going all out to end that drought during the Club World Cup.

He said: “It would be mega. You could class it as winning a trophy this season, depends which way you dress it up. I just think any tournament Pep Guardiola takes part in, he’ll want to win, that’s the competitive nature.

“You saw that in the last couple of games of the Premier League. How much it meant to them qualifying for the Champions League and a couple of celebrations that maybe went a bit over the top but he’s a winner and for me it was quite refreshing that he cares so much and still wants to win so much.

“I think that’s engrained in you. I think as a sportsman, once you cross the white line and play any sport with a competitive nature, you want to win. That will be the same for the Club World Cup. He’ll want to go over there and represent Manchester City on a huge stage. And to get your hands on the trophy, you’re inspiring the next generation. They’ll want to be Man City fans and the club will sell itself off the back of that.”
