The social media star has been a big hit in the sport since making his debut in 2020, but the American has now revealed exactly when he wants to call it a day
YouTuber-turned-boxer Jake Paul has revealed he intends to retire from the sport of boxing after the next Olympic Games.
Since making his professional debut in 2020, the 28-year-old has taken the sport by storm. The young American has already defeated the likes of Ben Askren, Tyron Woodley, Anderson Silva, Nate Diaz and Mike Perry. His toughest test inside the ring came in his seventh outing against Tommy Fury.
Despite scoring a knockdown in the final round, Paul suffered the first defeat of his professional career, losing via split decision in Saudi Arabia. ‘The Problem Child’ then got back to winning ways against Diaz before wins over Andre August, Ryan Bourland and Perry. Paul continued his impressive run of form with a win over former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson in his last fight back in November. With 12 fights under his belt already, the American is hoping to remain active in the ring and is chasing many accolades inside the sport.
That said, he’s already penciled in his retirement date – and it’s not that far away. Paul has revealed he intends to walk away from the sport after the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, providing he’s allowed to compete.
In an interview with RING CHAMPS, when asked about his retirement plans, Paul said: “I don’t think it’ll be after winning a world title. I’m going to try and figure out how to fight in the 2028 Olympics and win gold and then I think I’ll retire.” When pressed on the division he’d compete in at the Games, Paul replied: “It’s in kilograms, so 80-90 something. The one under heavyweight.
With the American hoping to stay busy in 2025, Paul later explained that his best is yet to come inside the ring. “I think people haven’t seen the best version of me in the ring or what I’m capable of,” he added. “I think I’ve not shown that and this next year is the great way to do that.”
Paul recently shocked the world after announcing that he will be taking on older brother Logan in two months’ time in a bout aired on HBO Max, as both men posted a photo of the two facing off. Both brothers posted a short message on social media, writing: “The moment you’ve waited a decade for… March 27th on @StreamOnMax.”
Fans have now responded to the bizarre announcement on Twitter, as one wrote: “Stop trolling”, while another asked: “Is this a joke???” Talk of the Paul brothers fighting each other has been rumoured for years, but some boxing fans teased the pair after their announcement, as one wrote: “Absolutely no one has been waiting for this.” There were even more claims that the fight news was a hoax as one wrote: “I’m calling bull on this one. Logan is tied in with Netflix for WWE, your last fight was on Netflix and did big numbers so why on earth would this be on MAX? I think it’s a ruse.”
