Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis fight sees rules changed just weeks before first bell

By staff13 October 2025No Comments4 Mins Read

The rules for Jake Paul’s exhibition showdown with Gervonta Davis have officially been released, with the Florida Athletic Commission confirming the details

16:09, 13 Oct 2025Updated 16:09, 13 Oct 2025

The regulations for Jake Paul’s exhibition bout with Gervonta Davis have now been officially announced.

Paul and Davis are set to square off in Miami on November 14. Most Valuable Promotions co-founder Nakisa Bidarian disclosed last month that the contest will be a 10-round exhibition, featuring three-minute rounds at a maximum weight limit of 195lb. On the night, both fighters will don 12-ounce gloves.

Bidarian also verified that three commission-approved world-class professional judges will be positioned ringside to score each individual round. Nevertheless, there has since been a minor alteration after the Florida Athletic Commission informed MMA Fighting that whilst there will be three judges, two are professional judges whilst the third will be an AI judge.

With the exhibition regulations now established, it was also verified that the bout’s outcome will not be added to either combatant’s record. “The Florida Athletic Commission confirms that this event has been sanctioned as an exhibition,” commission officials informed MMA Fighting, reports All Out Fighting.

“The match will be recorded in the national registry as an exhibition, and it will not count toward either athlete’s professional record. The exhibition will classify knockouts and technical knockouts as fight-ending in the same manner as professional contests,” commission officials verified. “The Florida Athletic Commission remains committed to transparency, regulatory compliance, and the continued safe advancement of combative sports in Florida.”

There’s already been considerable controversy surrounding the event’s arrangements before the bout even takes place. Back in September, MVP pulled their application for an event licence in Georgia. The Georgia Athletic and Entertainment Commission (GAEC) informed USA Today that MVP Promotions had abandoned their attempts to get the clash sanctioned.

Rick Thompson, chairman of the GAEC, disclosed that the boxing promotion had ‘withdrawn the event permits and rule waivers required to hold the fight in Georgia on November 14.’ Thompson remarked: “I believe it’s in the public’s interest to know that because they’ve been promoting something they should not have been.” He continued: “They probably evaluated a situation, knew that their weight differences were too much.”

Following confirmation of the scrap, numerous figures from the boxing world have voiced their opinions and have savagely criticised the event – primarily because of the enormous weight gap between the two fighters. Paul typically fights at cruiserweight (200lbs) and even stepped up to heavyweight for his clash with Mike Tyson last November. Meanwhile, Davis, the lightweight champion, weighed in at 135lbs during his most recent appearance.

When is Jake Paul vs Gervonta Davis?

As previously mentioned, the battle between Paul and Davis is scheduled for Friday, November 14. The entire spectacle will unfold at the Kaseya Center in Florida. Official timings for the event will be announced nearer the date, but anticipate the headline bout to commence at approximately 4am UK time. Just like the Paul vs Tyson and Katie Taylor vs Amanda Serrano bouts, all the action will be streamed on Netflix.

The streaming giant has confirmed that it will be included in all payment plans, which range from £5.99 per month with adverts, to £12.99 without, and a ‘Premium’ service for £18.99.
