The WWE star made the headlines for his antics following Jake Paul’s win over former heavyweight world champion Mike Tyson on Friday night in Texas
Logan Paul has apologised to his younger brother after his behaviour at Jake’s fight against Mike Tyson on Friday night went viral on social media.
The highly-anticipated main event between ‘The Problem Child’ and ‘Iron Mike’ failed to live up to the hype. Paul won via unanimous decision in what was a one-sided contest. The 27-year-old had his moments, but never came close to knocking out the former heavyweight world champion even after telling him he “had to die” the night before after the 58-year-old had slapped him during their face-off.
Speaking after the fight, when asked if he took his foot off the gas, Paul said: “Yeah, definitely, definitely a bit. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want [to hurt him]. I wanted to give the fans a show, but I didn’t want to hurt somebody that didn’t need to be hurt.”
It was announced on Saturday that more than 60million households streamed the main event on Netflix, which caused the streaming platform to crash several times. The fight’s gate, meanwhile, surpassed $18m, double the previous Texas gate record for combat sports in both boxing and MMA, topping Canelo Alvarez’s record of $9m.
During the post-fight interview, Logan was standing directly behind his younger brother and was seen spraying some of Jake’s ‘W body spray’ everywhere as well as knocking off Jake’s hat off of his head. Following his behaviour in the ring, the 29-year-old WWE star has now issued an apology to ‘The Problem Child’.
In a video uploaded to Instagram, he said: “A lot of people asking about this moment from the fight. They’re saying ‘why did you knock your brother’s hat off? What were you spraying in that yellow can? Did you try to steal his moment?’ No!” Logan explained that he was “just trying to help Jake promote his body spray” and his “motor skills got the best of him.”
“I knocked his hat off. It went to the floor. I felt so stupid,” Paul continued. The American then spoke directly to his brother, saying: “Jake, I’m sorry I ruined one of the biggest moments of your life. But guess what buddy? You smelled great.” Speaking in the ring after the fight, Tyson claimed he fancied another bout and called out Logan for a fight, saying: “I don’t know, maybe his brother.” Logan immediately responded in the ring, telling the 58-year-old: “Motherf****r I’d kill you Mike!”
Paul later told the Daily Mail that he has no intention of taking on Tyson in the ring. He said: “I f***ing love Uncle Mike he’s just so… I mean, that was impressive, no? For a 58-year-old? He’s tough, proud of him, weathered the storm against a young brute named Jake Paul. I think Jake let him live.”
