Jamal Musiala suffers sickening Club World Cup injury leaving rival in tears

By staff5 July 2025No Comments3 Mins Read

Jamal Musiala has suffered a horrific injury after colliding with Gianluigi Donnarumma in Bayern Munich’s Club World Cup quarter-final match against Paris Saint-Germain

Jamal Musiala has suffered a sickening injury at the Club World Cup, with the Bayern Munich star getting stretchered off after a collision with Paris Saint-Germain goalkeeper Gianluigi Donnarumma.

While Musiala attempted to challenge PSG defender Willian Pacho for the ball, Donnarumma dived across to claim it and seemed to land on his rival’s left leg. Musiala immediately screamed out in pain as he fell to the ground.

The 22-year-old ended up being stretchered off the pitch after receiving medical attention, with a distraught Donnarumma needing to be consoled by his team-mates as he was left in tears.

Broadcasters cut away as Musiala was treated and Bayern issued a statement on social media, writing: “Jamal Musiala has to be carried off the field after a serious injury. We’re with you, Jamal!”

Fans also sent well wishes to Musiala, with one writing: “All the strength to him! Hope he recovers soon!” Another added: “We are all with him. Get well soon champ”.

Some fans also took aim at the Club World Cup itself, which has been criticised as it has added even more games to an already packed schedule. If Bayern reach the final on July 13, there will be just over a month before the new Bundesliga season starts on August 22.

“Musiala just suffered what seems like a career-ending injury playing a tournament that’s not supposed to exist in the first place,” another said. “WTF is a FIFA Club World Cup after a long, stressful season?”

Another wrote: “Increasing the number of matches increases the chances of injuries for players. Will FIFA change anything to prevent this from happening? No. We hope Jamal Musiala will be able to play football again.”

Former Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp has also been critical of the tournament, stating: “It’s all about the game and not the surrounding events – and that’s why the Club World Cup is the worst idea ever implemented in football in this regard.

“People who have never had or do not have anything to do with day-to-day business anymore are coming up with something. There is insane money for participating, but it’s also not for every club.

“Last year it was the Copa (America) and the European Championship, this year it’s the Club World Cup, and next year the World Cup. That means no real recovery for the players involved, neither physically nor mentally.”
