Milos Kerkez has enjoyed a terrific campaign for Bournemouth, playing a huge part in the Cherries flying high in the league under boss Andoni Iraola – and now Liverpool are strongly linked with signing him
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher could get his transfer wish after reports Bournemouth left-back Milos Kerkez would favour a move to Anfield should he leave the club.
The Reds are seeking a long-term successor to Andy Robertson, who is about to turn 31 and has been been criticised over some under-par displays this season.
Kerkez, meanwhile, has enjoyed a terrific campaign for Bournemouth and has played a huge part in the Cherries flying high in the league under boss Andoni Iraola.
The 21-year-old has one goal and three assists for Bournemouth, starting all 21 of their Premier League games so far, and it seems inevitable he will join a top six side in the near future.
While Bournemouth are not looking to offload Kerkez in this window, it’s been reported by the i Paper that Anfield would be the £50million-rated star’s preferred destination if he did depart the Vitality Stadium.
Liverpool’s other option at left-back is Kostas Tsimikas but Carragher doesn’t believe he is a strong enough back-up option – saying Kerkez would be a much better option after hailing him as a “revelation” in December.
“We’ve just spoken about Liverpool ‘s left-back situation and the fact Andy Robertson needs help, Now listen, he’s been a revelation at Bournemouth. The only reason why I mention Liverpool is that fact that, yes they are probably looking for someone in that position, but also because the sporting director who brought him to Bournemouth is now the sporting director at Liverpool.
“He’s aggressive, he’s got pace. Even when you look at him he looks like a full-back, small, really aggressive and after wingers on that side. He’s been superb since he’s come into the Premier League for Bournemouth and it’s one to watch for the future whether he stays or leaves.”
A move for Kerkez could be boosted considering that Liverpool chief Richard Hughes was the man who signed the player for Bournemouth when he was at the South Coast club in 2023.
In addition to a new left-back – Carragher wants to see Liverpool sign a new left-sided centre-back who could help out in the position if need be, noting that almost every top side has one except for his former side.
“Liverpool haven’t got a player that every other club has. It’s a left-sided defender who can play centre-back or left-back. Arsenal have Calafiori, even United have Martinez, Chelsea have got Colwill, City have got Nathan Ake and Gvardiol. Even Tottenham have Van de Ven who can do a little bit at left-back.
“If Liverpool sign that player in January – I haven’t got any names and nothing’s been linked – but I think if Liverpool did that, I’d be certain that they’d win the league.”
