Singer Jennifer Lopez filed for divorce from her husband Ben Affleck this week after two years of marriage as the actor reportedly gave her a ‘final act of compassion’

Ben Affleck is said to have known Jennifer Lopez was going to file for their divorce.

The former Hollywood couple revealed they have gone their separate ways after two years of marriage, as J-Lo filed divorce papers this week. They had rekindled their romance decades after their first engagement and married in 2022. However, the singer declared they were done on their second wedding anniversary amid ongoing rumours.

They wed in a Las Vegas ceremony at A Little White Wedding Chapel in July 2022 before tying the knot again a month later in front of friends and family at Ben’s house in Georgia. It has since been claimed actor Ben allowed J-Lo to make the final move in their romance as an act of “compassion”.

“Ben knew Jennifer was going to file for divorce. It was not a shocker to him at all. In fact, he let her have this,” a source told the Mail. “Jennifer was more concerned about how [the split] will affect her career, what fans will think and what the press will write.” Jennifer has suffered a number of setbacks this year prior to her divorce.

Her first album in a decade entered at number 38 on the Billboard 200 chart and her accompanying musical film was panned by critics. Back in May, J-Lo saw her 30-date arena tour cancelled and her JLo Beauty range was announced to be leaving makeup shop Sephora by the end of the year.

Following their split, it has been claimed Ben and Jennifer got off to a tricky start just days after tying the knot. The Oscar winner was reportedly left unhappy over the publicity surrounding their wedding in 2022. A source claimed the couple were struggling to communicate in the days following the wedding as they spent time on honeymoon in Lake Como, Italy.

“When they weren’t in front of the cameras, they would barely speak to each other during what was supposed to be the happiest time of their life,” a source told PageSix. “He sold her on him being a changed man, and that lasted a very short time.” Ben is said to have wanted more privacy and was struggling to cope with his new wife’s huge celebrity status. The source added: “He doesn’t want [the entourage] and all the drama that comes with that in his home.”

In Jen’s documentary, The Greatest Love Story Never Told, the singer revealed Ben had kept all their love letters and correspondence from when they first started dating back in 2002 until now. The romantic even had the letters and emails bound into a book as a gift for her when they reunited in 2021.

The singer handed out the letters to those who were helping her create her new album in the studio, which shocked her husband. He told the camera: “My book that I had given her was down there. She’s like ‘I’ve been reading it to people. This is kind of the inspiration and I’ve been showing them the book’. I was like you’ve been showing all the musicians all those letters… and they were like ‘Yeah we call you Pen Affleck’. And I was like, ‘Oh my god.'” Before adding that he would have preferred if the letters had remained private.
