Jessica Simpson, who has has released seven studio albums including In This Skin in 2003, married NFL star Eric Johnson in 2014 at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California
Jessica Simpson and husband Eric Johnson have split after 10 years of marriage.
The 44-year-old singer revealed she and the former NFL player, 45, “have been living separately” as they navigate “a painful situation in our marriage”.
The statement, seen by ET and People, adds: “Our children come first, and we are focusing on what is best for them. We are grateful for all of the love and support that has been coming our way, and appreciate privacy right now as we work through this as a family.”
The couple, who have three kids together, tied the knot in July 2014 at the San Ysidro Ranch in Montecito, California, stating at the time they were “overwhelmed with complete happiness and love”.
But again, even after the wedding, the couple highlighted how important it was to say ‘I do’ in front of their children, by which time they’d already had Maxwell Drew and Ace Knute. The statement added: “To say ‘I do’ in front of family, friends and, most importantly, our children has been the happiest moment of our lives.”
However, speculation Jessica and Eric’s relationship was on the rocks started last year when Jessica, who has has released seven studio albums, was spotted without her wedding ring.
And the couple hadn’t been spotted together since their youngest child – five-year-old Birdie – had a kindergarten graduation ceremoy in June. Jessica’s Instagram has been conspicuously Eric-free since their Easter celebration on April 9. Eric, who played for the San Francisco 49ers for five years, was also spotted without his wedding ring last year.
But the rumour mill really got swirling when Jessica posted a cryptic social media message on November 11 which appeared to throw shade at someone close to her.
“Interviews in my Nashville music room where I unearthed my singular magic This comeback is personal, it’s an apology to myself for putting up with everything I did not deserve,” the message read.
Jessica’s first studio album Sweet Kisses, released in 1999, sold two million copies in the United States. Her second 2001 album, Irresistible, received gold certification by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA)while her third, In This Skin, sold three million copies in the United States.
