Jessie J health update as she prepares to return to work after cancer diagnosis

Pop star Jessie J is preparing to return to the stage following her breast cancer treatment as her pal Scott Mills reveals how she is doing before her BBC Radio 2 in the Park show

Scott Mills has shared an update on his pal Jessie J after she confirmed she needed more surgery after her cancer diagnosis. The pop star revealed she had been diagnosed with early breast cancer earlier this year and underwent surgery after discovering a 4 to 5cm lump.

She decided to press pause on her career as she took time out to focus on her health. Jessie sadly said the cruel disease had “robbed her of memories” with her young son.

The Pricetag hitmaker had a mastectomy as part of her treatment, instead of having radiotherapy and chemotherapy. Jessie’s biopsy came just one day after her birthday, and confirmed that she had high-grade cancer cells.

Sadly, Jessie was recently rushed back to hospital with an infection and fluid on her lungs. However, she is determined to get back to the career she loves as she joins BBC Radio 2 in the Park this weekend.

Ahead of her highly anticipated return to the stage, radio host Scott shared an update on how she is doing. He told The Sun: “She’s all right and she is feeling really positive.

“She just needs to focus on her health and then feel ready for the tour. It’s a homecoming. I’m definitely not missing that.” Jessie had planned to tour in October, but her dates have been pushed back into next year as she needs more surgery.

Last month, Jessie confirmed: “Unfortunately, I have to have a second surgery – nothing too serious, but it has to be done by the end of this year. This falls in the middle of the tour I had booked. I’m so sorry, I feel frustrated and sad, but I need to be better, I need to be healed.”

She will now perform her shows in April 2026 instead. Jessie has been open about her breast cancer diagnosis, regularly sharing updates with her fans and speaking candidly about how it has affected her and her family.

During an appearance on Jamie Laing’s Great Company podcast, the hitmaker said: “Yesterday I sobbed. I feel like I can’t be a mum to my son, and I miss him

“I feel like cancer has robbed me of memories with my boy. I had moments where I thought, ‘this is going to go left and I’m going to die.”

She recalled the moment doctors delivered the news as she said: “When they told me I just burst into tears. The doctors had said it was probably just a cyst, so I wasn’t too worried.”

“I was so busy with work after the diagnosis, I don’t think I processed things properly,” she said. Jessie performed at Capital FM’s Summertime Ball just before her surgery and she admitted it got her through.

“That euphoria and energy… when I was put to sleep, I replayed that moment in my head,” Jessie said. “I wish everyone who has ever been diagnosed with anything scary could experience what I did. The whole crowd erupted… It was like a giant hug.”
