Gavin and Stacey star Joanna Page has opened up on a horrifying moment in a taxi when she was kidnapped and the driver threatened to take off her clothes
Joanna Page has opened up on the terrifying moment she was kidnapped by a taxi driver. The Gavin and Stacey star, 48, claimed she was threatened by the cabbie who said they would “take off all my clothes”.
She explained the ordeal went on for 90 minutes, with the driver saying they would take naked photos of the star. Sharing her fear from the situation, she said it was the only time in her life she has thought she was “in the s**t”.
The actress shared what she was thinking at the time of the incident: “This is serious. You can’t get yourself out of this. I don’t know what I’m going to do.'”

Joanna said she was able to keep the driver talking while being drove around. Thankfully she was taken back to her hotel room.
She continued: “I got out of the car and ran straight up to reception. I was in such a state and told them everything that had happened.
“They said, ‘you’re so incredibly lucky. Just never ever do anything like that again’.”
It’s claimed the incident took place in 2004 hile she was in South Africa. Joanna was in the country filming or BBC’s To The Ends of The Earth. And it’s said that her co-star Benedict Cumberbatch escaped a kidnapping just weeks later too.
Joanna was married to fellow actor James Thornton at the time, having tied the knot in December 2003. They had met years earlier while on the David Copperfield set in 1999. Joanna and James share four kids together.
And she has moved to dispel claims of a potential divorce incoming. Instead, Joanna has called her husband “wonderful” as she puts the record straight on their relationship.
She told the Mirror that a lockdown joke about getting divorced had been misunderstood. It led to the rumour mill going mad, but she has now moved to explain herself.
She said: “I just said that Covid was really difficult for us as a family because me and James argued a lot, and it was like we were going to get divorced every day.
“I said it jokingly but this newspaper printed it as if I genuinely meant it. I didn’t. I utterly adore him. He’s wonderful.”
Joanna went on: “We don’t do date nights as there’s too much going on and I can’t be arsed. And while, it’s wonderful and hectic and fun, James and I can go through huge chunks of not seeing or speaking to each other. So now they are all at school, we can sit down, have a little coffee and actually talk.”
