Joe Cole has hailed Borussia Dortmund’s transfer business as Serhou Guirassy, who was only signed in the summer, continued to produce in their Champions League campaign as he tipped Arsenal to consider a move
Joe Cole has tipped Borussia Dortmund frontman Serhou Guirassy for a summer move after his outstanding Champions League campaign. Despite the German side’s exit their striker sits top in the race for the Golden Boot.
Dortmund, who made the final last season, were knockout in Tuesday’s quarter-final by Barcelona despite winning the second-leg at home. Their 3-1 win owed to a hat-trick from Guirassy as he became the first African player to score a treble in the last eight of the competition.
The Bundesliga outfit have previously shown a willingness to cash in on their top players should the right fee be laid down and Guirassy’s exploits on the European stage will have seen several clubs take note.
Cole believes Arsenal, who will pursue a No 9 whom can they rely on for regular goals this summer, may consider shortlisting the Dortmund frontman and also tipped Chelsea to weigh up a potential bid.
He said on TNT Sports: “The recruitment team at Dortmund are incredible. They have some system there because players feel at home there. Guirassy, how much would he go for now? They will be queuing up for him I’m sure.” Cole also added: “I think Chelsea, he can play that role. Arsenal, maybe. He’s got that ability. If you’re putting the ball in the back of the net at that rate, you can pick your club and pick your money.”

Arsenal’s lack of goals has cost them the chance of challenging for the Premier League title. Their injury crisis in the final third exposed their lack of a prolific frontman, which is set to be addressed this summer. Chelsea meanwhile are likely going to add more firepower to their frontline.
Guirassy came up with 30 goals for Stuttgart last season before earning an a move to last season’s Champions League finalists. The Guinean is also flying the flag for his continent, scoring more than any other African player in the tournament.
He said: “It’s an amazing feeling to be the top African scorer in the Champions League, especially among so many incredible players. Leading the charts shows I’m a strong finisher, but none of it would be possible without the support of my teammates. I can’t achieve this on my own.”
The German side also face the prospect of losing Englishman Jamie Gittens, who has continued to thrive since heading to Dortmund from Manchester City. Those at Signal Iduna Park are ready to demand a hefty fee for the winger – and are also likely to want top dollar for Guirassy.
