Both Fury Sr and Darren Till traded barbs on multiple occasions during a launch press conference promoting the Liverpudlian’s clash with Tommy Fury
Darren Till had a brutal comeback for John Fury during a heated press conference promoting the former UFC star’s showdown with Tommy Fury.
Both Fury and Till faced off for the first time since the confirmation of their boxing showdown on January 18. The younger brother of boxing icon Tyson Fury hasn’t been seen in the ring since beating YouTuber KSI last year. As for his upcoming opponent, the Liverpudlian will be making his professional boxing debut against ‘TNT.’
The 31-year-old left the UFC last year, with his last fight in the promotion coming against Dricus du Plessis back in December 2022. On that night, he suffered a third-round submission defeat by the recently-crowned middleweight king. Till did take part in an exhibition boxing bout back in July, defeating Mohammad Mutie by technical knockout.
Speaking about the fight, Fury said: “It feels great to finally say that I am back! I have been out of the ring far too long. I’ve been getting itchy knuckles so I am thrilled to be able to announce my return, headlining a massive event in my hometown and in front of my fans. Till had a good UFC career but he’s stepping into the boxing ring now, against a proper pro, and he will quickly realise that he is out of his depth and this is not the game for him. I plan on dealing with Till in conclusive fashion and then chasing even bigger fights in 2025.” As for Till, the Brit simply said: “January 18 is my time, my night.”
During the press conference on Tuesday evening, both Fury and Till were respectful to start with, but things got out of hand when the former UFC star threatened to kick Fury in the face if he was losing the fight. “At the end of the day, I can’t beat you, I’ll just kick you in the face in there,” Till said. “How about that? I’m a proper fighter, not a boxer. I don’t walk in a room like this and see boxing and go, ‘s***.’ I walk in, no one here is a threat to me. Not one person in this room, security, you, your dad are not a threat to me. I’m an MMA fighter, so if I want to kick you or elbow you in the face, I will, and no one can do anything about it.”
This sparked real chaos as Tommy’s father John chimed in and began trading barbs with Till. “Leave my son Tyson’s name out of your mouth,” he said before calling the Liverpudlian ‘pigs eyes’ on eight separate occasions. Fury Sr then labelled Till a “disgrace to Liverpool” and “having the face of a ****.”
The 31-year-old had responded by claiming: “Tyson came to spar me and I treated him like a baby. Nobody’s seen you since Usyk bladdered Tyson. Where have you been little John? Go back to where you f***ing came from mate. Little John, shut up.” The drama didn’t end there after Fury Sr began squirting water at Till, triggering a scuffle as both fighters attempted to get at the other. However, the pair were kept separate and the situation was eventually de-escalated.
Reacting to the heated press conference, Till told Fight Hub TV: “If they want to go, they want to go innit – Little John hasn’t been seen or heard from for months so what’s he chatting mate, I’d absolutely put him in the ground. I’m going to break him, I want to break him in half – imma go after them all, the whole family. It’s me versus them, it’s Darren Till on his own against [all of] them. It’s never personal, I don’t hold any ill-will towards him or John, I wish them the best of health… They were being respectful, but I can’t help myself, you know?”
